I have a chance to purchase a brand new LS7 for a very good price and I was thinking of putting it in my C5 Z06. What do you all think of this? I don't know how many times this has been done, I feel not many.

I have had the same thought and talked to one who would know more about it, at the local speed shop, he said that if you were able to spend the money on a LS7 and the swap, then you would be much more better off to invest that same money into the LS6 that is now in your C5 Z06 and have a much better ride and power. It really was a no brainer he said. (Although I still liked the idea of saying and having a 427 LS7 in my C5 Z06 too. Invest in what you have, not in a new drivetrain, that's my opinion...

Some useful info on your query:
1. The best way to add hp to your current set up is probably a APS twin turbo (about $9,000 installed). That should get you 150-200 hp addl. The set up is great for the street or 1/4 mile. It will also have good low end pull. Because of the turbo lag, it's not a good set up for HPDE driving or road racing.

2. If you want to road race your car, an LS7(aka larger displacement might make sense). NA engines are what road racers typically favor since they don't overheat and are very durable.

My street car has a SC in it. I am currently building a track only (rr) car which will have a 427 big block race prepped engine. The advantage to the latter is durability and low end torque.

I have a buddy that owns a C5 ZO6 with SC. He has stated to me in previous conversations that he has experienced problems with the piston design of the LS2 after adding the boost. He states that the surface is "applied" metal, and chipped off a fingersized portion at 6lb. of boost. Any thoughts? Have you replaced your pistons upon SC your engine? What kind??

Generally, stock pistons and internals good till about 8 lbs. of boost. Tons of folks use blowers with Z06's with good results.

I am running 16 lbs of boost at at that level, or anything north of 9 lbs, you need to forged the bottom end of the car. Pistons,........

I think I read on here somewhere that you have like 700 hp on your Vette?

actually I think that I am going to buy the engine anyways because of the price and if I trade my c5 in for a C6 then I will have a really big mod for it!!:D
