: Tire life, why so low?
zplunder1 07-14-2008, 06:38 AM I am just curious as to why the tire life is so low on the Corvettes. I am sure it is low on other cars to but I don't own those other cars, I have a Vette!lol I think that I am only getting around 16-18K miles on a set of tires and I am not burning out or road racing. Just the occasional fun time!! I am very good with checking my tire pressure all the time. So I was just wondering what is up?!!
freakshow 07-14-2008, 06:47 AM These are high performance autos, so the high performance tires are not going to last as long as a Honda or a pickup truck.
raulck_hn17 07-14-2008, 07:12 AM :iagree: .. high performance cars hp wise need sticky tires to really put the power down.. sticky tires dont last as long.. thats why.. plus tire rotations prolongs the life of the tires.. vette people cant do tire rotation since we have staggered wheels and tires.. which means that the rears are bigger than the front or wider.. hope it helped.. pretty much nothing is wrong with your vette.. you'll also notice most of teh time the most expensive racign tires last teh least... hope it helped.. now go :burnout:
DynamicTuningSolutions 07-14-2008, 10:53 AM An alignment can help the tire wear as the factory specs are not optimal for stock or performance tires. With a performance alignment we got 10000 miles out of a set of Nitto 01's. Usually you get about ~6000 miles from Nitto 01's.
Redneck Slim 07-14-2008, 01:00 PM Welcome to the world of high performance. Even with rotation, the tires on my STi last 12,000 miles. Ask the owners of 911s about tire life. Testarossas. Sportbikes.
Chemdawg99 07-14-2008, 03:46 PM Tire life is a compromise of performance. That said, Michelin A/S ZPs are a good tire (for "normal" driving) with treadwear rating of 400 (very high for a perfomance-oriented tire)
02RonZ06 07-14-2008, 07:20 PM I know why mine don't last long... 565 foot pounds of torque out of the supercharger, with 6 speed, it's just so much fun  occassionally with a friend in the Z, I'll get into the throttle hard at about 55 mph in 3rd and they will break loose easily, probably taking away a few hundred normal driven miles each time :burnout:
Life is Good.

:iagree: proper alignment will extend life of tires and your foot out of the gas! :smack:
raulck_hn17 07-17-2008, 06:36 AM ill just do the proper allignment lol
02RonZ06 07-17-2008, 07:04 AM I got my 4 wheel alignment done at the local Goodyear tire center where they have one of the newest Hunter machines, it was only $59.95 plus tax, and a very nice job too.
bigblock427 07-17-2008, 05:49 PM I have put on about seven sets of tires on my last two "Vettes. The best mileage I ever got out of a set was 32,000 from a set of Goodyear GSC's on my '96. The worst mileage I got is 17,000 miles on a set of Goodyear F1. Both were good tires.
I currently drive an '02 Z06. My first two sets were Goodyear F1 Supercars and I got 23,000 miles out of those sets. I bought a new set of tires last May, and since the Goodyear F1 Supercars weren't available anywhere I checked (internet or local tire store) I bought the Mich. Pilot Sports. I only have about 1,500 miles on them. They are good tires but I would rather have the Goodyears.:patriot:

Same here, would much rather drive the GY's!
origami 07-18-2008, 06:33 AM It will have to do with the tires compound, your driving habits and if your cars alignment in good. If y those three variables are off then your tire life will shorten quickly!
