One of my friends told me that I should change my thermostat to make the car run cooler. What is the lowest I should/could go? Also is this a job I can do myself? Thanks.:)

There are 160 and 170 degree thermostats that you can purchase, try WCC.

I did a 160 and no problems at all and very easy install. And yes got mine from WCC!!

Simple install but please be aware that unless you re-program your PCM to turn your fans on at a lower temp to take advantage of the new TStat OR getting external fan control relays installed, it isn't doing much good....

Also you really won't see much gain unless you run alot of HPDEs or track alot...

That being said I did swap mine out per my tuner's recommendation, but I suspect it had more to do with him not wanting to modify his cookie cutter tune.

Bought a 160 thermo and will tackle it this weekend if I have some time. Thanks for the heads up on the tune tstar! I might have to wait a week for my tuner, will that be a problem or should I wait until he is ready and then install?

No, that won't be a problem at all!

mine had the 160 in it when I bought it, also the long tube headers, dual Borla 4 inch stinger exhaust, performance x-pipe, Vara-Ram dual cold air intake, and B&M Ripper short throw shifter. And the guy said that it still had the factory tune, I need to get it in and get a custom tune and get those extra horse out of there and make sure that the fans are coming on at the proper time and also to get the engine light turned off, was told it was probably from the Headers.

How do you like the shifter? I was thinking of getting that one. And also I have a 160 in mine and I think it has helped out greatly and I did have a pro tune afterward.

The shifter is good, it is a little notchy, but firm and rather easy to get all gears with little ease. I did not have the opportunity to see how a stock one felt, so I do not have much to compare it too. It is a nice short throw.

Hey why not just put 2 bottles of Water Wetter or 40 Below in your coolent tank. Thats gonna take that temp down by about 20 degrees if not more by transfering heat better.

That would only band aid a potentially serious problem, if you're stuck somewhere I'd try it...

I'd recommend finding and fixing the problem...

No offense Hollywood, but I like to fix the problem and not just put a band aid on it as "tstar" has stated! I ran it pretty hard yesterday and she is still running with lower temps!
