Hi there...I'm a new corvette owner with a 1996 C4 that seems to have a cooling problem. It seems to get hot while driving in traffic and at street lights. The cooling fans don't activate until around 240 degrees. It never has boiled over but I sure don't like to watch that gauge. Is there any way to get the fans to come on earlier? Say like at 195 degrees. How about manual switches to override. Any information is greatly appreciated..Thanks, KW

:iagree: :iagree: The fans should come on around 228*--designed this way from the factory--It's just very hard to get used to---there's also likely a difference between what your analog gauge reads and the digital temp gauge---I personally trust my digital more---since the car is new to you I would check between the radiator and AC condenser (there is a slot/opening in the radiator support on the right side) for road debri --these cars like to suck up trash from the road and block air flow thru the radiator.

One quick waqy to turn on the fans early is to turn on the air conditioning, This will activate the fans

Ken use the forum "search"--type in my name SAYWHEN--threads started with at least one reply and click on C4 forum--there is a thread I started titled "Ambient Temp 100*"--it explains what I did to get my 96 to run cooler AND why you may want to leave yours alone---there is a super good article via a link posted by "CorvetteMongo"--read it-- VERY informative--I know what I like personally--BUT this article explains why these cars were designed to run hotter than most of us are used too

They were designed to run in heat, they were not tuned for best performance.
Cheap way if not wanting the load of the A/C is to unplug the pressure sensor off the freon line which causes fans to come on.
Best path is via tuning. Most everyone I tune prefers the fans set to come on sooner as there is zero positive of fans 1st coming on at 220 deg when with a stock 190 deg tstat fans could be set to at least come on then or go with a lower tstat and set fans to come on at 170 where engine oil still would be in the 180s.

Thats one way, You can try to mess around with the cars chips.
jegs has a adjustable fan actuator but in traffick your still going to heat up I have changed thermostats and it still goes to 215 not enough air getting to rad.

Go to your radiator shop and talk to the Mastertech, he will be able to build you a more efficiant radiator, maybe a triple pass.
go to jegs.com they have a adustable fan actuator that works 26.00
why chevy was so was stupid they did't see that??? the car is great ! i HAVE A 88 AND I Know it does not get enough air to the radiator it sucks! I live in fl. I just run water and water pump lubricant and 160 themostat
I have a adustable fan and it comes out of JEGs
no i can't I run nitrous you get it right it's awsome I am pushing the limits
you can't build a rad if doesn't get air !
