I did know Smokey Yunick though and talk about him being a creative mechanic is a stretch of the word. He took NASCAR's rule book to the next level and then some. I do miss seeing him at the track. He couldn't do today what he and others did back then, it would have cost him to much money for the fines NASCAR dishes out.
I do remember him when after a race NASCAR pulled his gas tank out of the car to check it and he got so mad at France that he drove the car back to the shop with out the tank in it. Later he said they never said how big the gas lines had to be :) ......and it goes on and on. Those are the guys that helped make that sport what it is today. You could spot him always by the hat he had on his head.

Mongo, You are in the, "Assumption" I do not know about cars. If I worked dealer level for 5 years out of my life, mostly happy to report I hardly worked on anything major on a Vette. All there was for me was to R&R intake manifolds, SRTA's (being the better deal for the customer give or take a $400 window of factory new).
I am wondering if there is someone with the grasp of the ECM and that code heading to the 1Atmo, or say the 14.7psi being equally the same number. Now, are we on the same page as following the basics as to follow the telemetry to the car--discussing map plots and fuel cuts to the injectors. How about oil leaks, water leaks, body leaks and chssis squeaks? Think I did dent have to manage those to hold my job down for 5 years, me being the clean-up man from some other mechanic's screw up? And did he know about repair of cars having more years on me? Dumb south american foreigner on the flat rate ignores the paper tag on the rear axle-- hot oil melts the glue--locks into the roller bearing right at that brake panel you lose a seal and the brake shoes are now 90w wet. So, does that bearing rollers lock and not sheer the outside of the bearing and rips the axle housing to powder--you could toss a new bearing into the axle shaft it was junk bye the time all was said and done.
