I just bought my first corvette this week. Its a 1985.The check engine light is on and scanning it says its the mass air flow meter.Does the aftermarket ones work because the bosch one is way to expensive.Borg Warner makes one for a 10th of the price.I was just wondering if anyone knew if it would be a problem.:banghead:

There should be no problem in using the aftermarket one. That is why they make them so that people can have a less costly option.

Hello.
On a 1985 Corvette there is a mass air flow power relay and a mass air flow burn off relay. You should check these before you buy the air flow meter. 85 it the only year with both of these relays and is the main reason for a check engine light. They are next to the distributor on the drivers side firewall.
Hope this helps, David Steele

Hello.
After reading your post about the relays being by the battery, you mite be right. The 85 vette a one of a kind as for relays, before you start just replacing them I can tell you the relays your looking for are side by side. Just switch the them and see if your problem is the same or go's away. There a fuel pump relay next to the distributor also. These relays are dealer only and most have been discontinued. I have some used ones if you need them.

Hello
Its all coming back to me, I Sold my 85 Vette 18 years ago. The burn off module is just to the right of the Information center just above the radio and to the right. There is no easy way to get to it. It's in the same spot as the VATS module in a 86 to 89 Vette. If you remove the top dash pad you can see it looking down . But getting the two 7mm screws that hold it in place, Now thats the hard part. If you need this module let me know.

I took the dash apart yesterday.I was having a hard time getting the bolt out for the module.I unpluged the module to do a power test just then it started to look like it was going to rain.I plugged it in to drive the car into the garage so I didnt get wet and the service engine light went out.It still was coding 33 I stopped and unhooked the battery left it off for an hour or so(took kids to the park)When I hooked it back up I coded it and it flashed 12.It didnt want to idle at first but after a little while it ran great.I assume the computer was in learn mode.It seemed to be fine when I drove it to the movie store I will see how it does on cold starts when I start it up today. This is the most helpful site with lots of great people I am proud to be a Vette owner and a member of Smokinvette.
Thanx alot
