I was thinking about putting 2 red stripes on my '02. I have seen some C6's with them has anyone done this with a C5? Pics would be appreciated. Thanks - Derek

Grand Sport Hash Marks or Fender Stripes... The five original '63 Grand Sport racecars were all identical, other than having colored-coded hash marks to identify them on the track. Back in the 60's, racing teams often had several cars with similar paint schemes driving at one time. It got confusing! With cars whizzing by at high speeds, combined with sometimes hectic work, race teams found the need to distinguish their cars and or drivers from one another. They accomplished this by simply applying one or two stripes on a hood, nose or fender. The most famous use for these stripes come from the 1963 Grand Sport Corvettes inspired by the father of the Corvette himself, Zora Arkus Duntov. These marvels dominated the track and brought down the almost unbeatable AC Cobras and Ferraris of the day.

The stripes reappeared in 1996 with the revival of the legendary Grand Sport Corvette name and color scheme in the last year of the C4 design. I believe Red is the traditional color.

I'm on the fence about them, I personally don't like the lack of symmetry but the racing hertitage aspect makes me want to put them on!

Jury out to lunch myself, I have only seen one Vette with strips like this on the freeway. Do they put it on both sides of the car?

Here is an example of the stripes on the C5. I personally like them on the car.I think its up to the owner if they want to put them on both sides.

they look cool on the C3's and C4's but those hash marks were tape if i remmeber right.then with the advent of the 96 GrandSport the hash marks were painted on right? I've seen C5's with them too.I say find a local sticker shop and have them make some for you in a couple of colors you like then try it out..if you dont like it then just take them off with a warm blow dryer so it dosent damage the clear coat and paint. its a hole lot better then painting it on and hating it afterwords... dosent the new C6 Zo6 Ron Fellowe's edition have them on both sides:confused:

Historically only the left fender gets the stripes, BUT as mentioned you can add them to the right fender too if you want.

Not sure about the Ron Fellows edition or not, I know the left fender has them.

Here are some pics of my 99. I put the stripes on last summer because I love the way the Ron Fellows Z06 looks. It was cheaper for me to go to my local graphics shop with pictures from the corvette catalog that only sells you the stripes for one side. Plus you can pic your own color at those shops and kinda lay it on the car to see what it looks like instead of only getting what you ordered in the catalog. Everybody that sees it thinks it looks awesome including Me. Good Luck!:burnout:

I've always liked the racy looks of those stripes...but I'm waiting for someone with major balls to pull out the paint brush and just whack a couple hand painted stripes right on the fender....just like the old days!

I like them on cars that have a serious track look to them. Best on a car with racing stripes (bottom of bumper to bottom of bumper) and Z16 style stripes (front edge of hood to back edge of trunk lid). Mostly like the old tradition of only being on the left fender.

Well, It won't be me. Besides. I don't think that is ballsy. More like Stupid. Hey don't get me wrong. I'm by no means refering to anyone being stupid. I spend a lot of time polishing my car. Those vinyl stripes shine now as much as the car. With hand painted stripes it would look like total dull brush marked crap.:thud:
