From OPEC's (http://www.opec.org/home/) website:

OPEC's mission is to coordinate and unify the petroleum policies of Member Countries and ensure the stabilization of oil markets in order to secure an efficient, economic and regular supply of petroleum to consumers, a steady income to producers and a fair return on capital to those investing in the petroleum industry.

-------------------------------------------------
I think they screwed the pooch :willy_nilly: on their mission statement.... I say we take over ALL the OPEC countries FOR their oil. :smack:

The only way gasonline will reach .50 a gallon is if alternative fuels are introduced on a nationwide scale, especially here in Commiefornia.

OPEC as no competition. Plain and simple they have a monopoly and Congress has done nothing to break it up their influence here.

Filled up yesterday and gas was 3.55 for regular and 3.75 for premium. Though had to sit in line for 20 mins as this was a grand opening for a new gas station.

I have also noticed here in certian parts of the state that the Truck Stops have the cheapest gas, though you wuoldn't want to buy anything inside.

If USA tapped for more oil, it doubt the fuel prices would ever go back down completely, the oil companies will just increase their profits.

Hurricanes come every year and now 'experts' are saying if a hurricane hits then the price of gas will go up to $8-9 dollars. I don't by it. It sounds like the experts are finding 'reasons' to increase the price of fuel.

Food for thought:

QuickSilver buys Texas gas properties for US$1.3 billion
23 hours ago

FORT WORTH, Tex. — Quicksilver Resources Inc. said Monday it will pay US$1.3 billion for rights to north Texas land that may hold more than one trillion cubic feet of recoverable natural gas.

The acquisitions, from various private parties including Chief Resources LLC, Hillwood Oil & Gas LP and Collins and Young LLC, will give Quicksilver access to Barnett shale in northern Tarrant and southern Denton counties that is producing 45 million cubic feet per day.

The cash part of the deal draws on a $700 million, 30-month second-lien loan facility, operating cash flow and Quicksilver's existing credit facility. The value of the stock part of the deal will be based on the volume weighted-average price for the 15 consecutive trading days immediately prior to the three trading days just before closing.

The transaction is scheduled to close Aug. 8.

Quicksilver estimates the properties contain more than 1 trillion cubic feet of recoverable natural gas resources, net to the company. That volume includes about 350 billion cubic feet of proved reserves.

Quicksilver estimates its production will grow at a three-year compound annual rate of about 50 per cent, after adjusting for the November 2007 divestment of operations in Michigan, Indiana and Kentucky.

Guys, we are all falling into the trap of the oil companies! IF gas ever fell to $3.50 per gallon, we would be jumping with joy!! What was everyone paying a year ago? Two years ago?

The oil companies need to be investing their profits into finding alternate energy. The auto industry seem to be heading into that direction. I guess that Big Oil wants to supress new energy sources as long as they can so they can keep collecting thier Billions in profits.:wtf:

I agree with what you are saying, but I still think that the oil companies could help us out. Over the weekend, Newt Gingrich was on Fox news and really came down hard on the speculators. He actually called them un-American because they were one of the biggest causes of the price of oil. In the early 70's we imported around 20% of our oil. Now it is over 70%. He said that if the Federal Oil Reserve would release about 25 or 30% of our reserves, it would drive down the price of world oil, drop the cost of gas, and bankrupt most of the speculators. I wish he would have run for president! Right now we have oil in Alaska, Texas, and off the gulf coast. All we have to do is change some laws that were passed by the Dems to prevent drilling, and go get it!!!

DynamicTuningSolutions
07-10-2008, 12:51 PM
It's OURS!!! Let's get it yesterday! :D
I get tired of the "we can't drill now it will take 5 years and then it will only affect the price by a few cents" argument anyway.
We need a comprehensive plan not the "Make the auto manufacturers get 40 MPG on average" mentality. Yeah I want my MPG but I also want a car/truck that is actually useful and has a bit of power.
