Someone was telling me waxing the cars every week isn't good for the paint jobs? Is this true, if so how often can a car be waxed?

Waxing the car every week won't damage your paint since there should be a coat of polish in between the paint and wax.

That is a little aggressive - I strip the car down to clear coat and start over every oil change - works great for me!

Clay bar about 2-3 times a year, and wax right after that. and a few a couple wax jobs inbetween occassionally.

How often you need to wax your car depends on the products you use and the external conditions your paint is subjected too. The durability of different waxes can vary signicantly under the same conditions. Also, wax on a car sitting outside 24/7 is not going to last as long as a car that spends most of it's time in the garage. You can get feel of the condition of the wax on your car by judging the beading of water on your paint and how your paint feels. If you have nice tight beads of water and the paint feels slick your wax is good shape. When the beads are few and far between and the paint no longer feels slick it could use a freash coat of wax.

I think waxing your car every week is excessive but I don't it would damage your paint.

Maintenance is key to a long lasting coat.

I put one coat of wax on in spring and polish the rest of the summer.
I've been doing this for 35 years and never had any paint problems.

I'll wax mine about 1 every 2 months or so. Between waxes the car gets detailed every weekend. If I need a quick shin I'll use a detailing spray.

Every time you wax your car your only leaving a layer of wax that is so thin you would need a microscope to see it. The more you wax the car the deeper the shine will become. Because the painted surface gets flatter and light reflects better. Also more moisture from the wax gets into the finish making the paint appear wet.

Since I only take my 2001 C5 out on nice days. I clay bar and wax it once in the spring and once in the fall. Every time I wash my Vette I like to use spray on wax that I apply when the car is still wet and then wipe off with a towel. Keeps my 2001 looking better than most new C6's.

Once or twice a year, depending on how it looks.
