I've had my 1984 for almost 7 years. For the first few years, it was my daily driver, and it ran like a champ. Unfortunately, Nebraska winters are not "vette-freindly"-so it became my fair weather car.
After I started storing her in the winter, it began going through batteries pretty regularly. I replaced the alternator, and that seemed to fix it for a couple of months, but now it won't start under any condition-even with the charger on hi-boost.
The only changes I made were to have a new stereo system professionly installed, and I replaced the power antenna. One thing I would also like to mention is that when I got the car, it had 2 (?) positive battery cables:wtf: -It doesnt matter which one was hooked up, the car ran (or did'nt) the same.
Any thoughts would be appreciated-Its gettin' warm here and I really want to drive her!!

check all wiring under hood looking for loose wires and wires that were chewed up by rodents,Remove battery and have checked. If ok but weak have them use their charger to recharge. Disconect power to all sound equip and antenna then replace batt, cross fingers, if starts again next day you know where to look.......

Thanks 2J, I'll check around under the hood. What did you mean by the "proper" black ground cable? (sorry-I'm a little slow):smack:
The battery seemed the most likely culprit, but I am on my fourth one now-seems unlikely that they would all be bad.
Any chance its the starter/solenoid? It used to start with the aid of a charger, and would run fine-until you shut it off. Then it had to be jumped again. Now its gotten to the point where it won't start even with a jump-its as if it is'nt getting enough juice to spin the starter. And by the way-are there supposed to be two positive cables going to the battery-or did a previous owner just replace one and not bother to remove the old one (although I can't imagine why) Thanks!!

Just a silly thing to mention but the dash is infamous for drainning batterys. If it is going bad that may be the proublem. I have that issue myself and cured it by installing a kill switch rather than spending the money for a new dash just now. Not a high priority at this point. LOL

Thats got me thinking firedawg-all of these problems started after I had the stereo installed. To complicate matters, its one of those Alpines with a lot of extraneous crap built in that requires some sort of power to back it up even with the car shut off....you don't suppose that could be the source of the drain ? I paid a pro to install it to avoid exactly this type of problem, but I guess if he had his 19 year old employee with all the satanic tattoos do the install then its reasonable to think he could have screwed it up.
At any rate-where did you install the kill switch? That sounds like a good idea-I did'nt know these dashes had that problem. Oddly enough, theres a tiny toggle switch inside my console (installed by a previous owner) and I never have been able to figure out what it was for-maybe he had the same problem? I think I'll have my battery tested, replace it if necessary, and then pull the radio fuse and start with that. Thanks guys. I'll keep you posted.
