This is a running motor, sold as is with roughly 30k miles on its last rebuild. It was pulled from a 66' vette, only to make way for a new all aluminum big block. As you can see, tho the motor is a pull, most of the parts are restored refurbished, replaced or at least well preserved. It was gonna be my spare for my ElCo but wound up bein a restore project that never found a chassis. Block is a 3858174 It's .030 over, its 2 bolt, its a lot more motor than it appears.
11:1 forged popups (verified by my mechanic - inspecting cylinders thru spark plug holes with finger n flashlight).
Forged, Small Journal, Reciprocating assembly turns with ease when plugs are removed.
Isky roller rockers, studs (confirmed)
461 heads w/2.02/1.60 (so I was told)
Comp Cams hydraulic RV cam
NEW Pwr Steering Pump
NEW Hi Volt Alternator
NEW Belts
NEW K&N Airfilter
ULTRA RARE!!! Camaro Crank pulley for running dual alternators
I have all of the Spark Plug chrome as well as the underblock wire looms and will include those as well. other than whats been mentioned, what you see is what you get.
comes with everything pictured except the unilite distributor and engine stand. I will substitute another Mallory distributor if I decide to sell.
None of the accessories or pullies have been run since being replaced
The manifold plenum deck was sealed at the time the motor was pulled with soundproofing mat to prevent loose parts from entering the heads or block and has not been removed since.
If a sale results, This would be a local pickup only. I WILL NOT SHIP
Block serial: FO9IOEB
My research** indicates its an HP option block which could have been sold in either a Corvette or an Impala. When you combine that research with the background on the accompanying Holley carburetor and aluminum manifold, you begin to see that this motor was a dealer assembled upgrade package for whatever chassis it came in. The nature of the correctly matching numbers indicate to me that the long block is an original L79 crate motor which was most likely sold as a "dealership assembled package" using OEM off the shelf Dealer replacement parts to trim for the specific chassis, and was not a factory motor. Somebody didnt like their original motor, or, they didnt know how to drive it, lol. Quite obviously at some point in the motor's recent usage history (2 owners back, in 97-98) it was pulled from its chassis and rebuilt/reinstalled with a little more ummphh. I do not have the actual numbers for the cam grind so I cant flow the motor to tell you exactly what it breathes, but I would estimate it conservatively at about
385-405hp***. In 2003 the car was sold in running condition to the person I purchased the motor from in 2007 who had had it sitting in careful storage for nearly a year in his garage. It is nonetheless a matching numbers working dealership longblock which, for you vette purists, at most requires a matched set of rods/pistons and replacement stock heads and coil/distributor. All brackets are oem. Rams Horns are in beautiful condition with new flange studs and have been cast blast and mounted to motor for display only, Only its accessories, hoses or filters may not be original or OE repro licensed replacement parts.
** I own an original 1968 Motors Manual for Chevrolet, the official text of repair shops of that day, in the early days of Chiltons. It lists a breakdown table of engine code(s) by year and their definitions as well as chassis specific parts, numbers, and packages provided to the dealers which had various replacement uses in different chassis lines and their "exact use" whether for assembly line use, or for dealership repair, replacements, or upgrades. It's a very useful text used in conjunction with "Chevy By The Numbers" which I also own. what a mouthful,.... breathe,.....
***I have a similar L76 splayed 4bolt 9.9:1 with extruded rockers, 2.02/1.60 and D ported 461s 6 inch rods, gear driven, similar Crane Hydraulic replacement for the Duntov 30/30 lash cam thats 440/440 on a 106 degree lobe and runs an aftermarket version of the Holley 4150/650cfm mechanical in place of the factory unit. and it dynos at 463hp.
More part numbers for you to verify:
Exhaust manifolds:
LH:3846559A
RH:3747042
Intake Manifold: Winters Alum. 3880840
Carb: Holley 3884505-DA / 3367 / 1910
Water Neck!!!! (ultra rare): 3827369
By now you should be realizing that this motor is verifiably 80% authentic without breaking the long block down and is a mild rebuild away from a number matched motor for a 66 roadster. Should you be of the mind that you dont care if the assembly is bone stock, then you're realizing this is way more than a 350 horse mouse. Check out the pics, even the air filter fixture is correct and in amazing condition.
This motor is a goldmine of oem collector parts, may be just what your lookn for. A lot went into the work to restore this engine so pls dont lo ball. It wont make me more willing to sell, and I bought it all, restored it all, assembled it all, so I know what it's worth. All comments welcome,.........
the motor shown in my avatar is the one discussed here. PM me and I will send link to more pics to your private email address cuz Im too new to post links here.
