: AP Racing - Big Brake Kit for C6
smokinvette 04-26-2007, 04:29 PM 2005-2007 Chevrolet Corvette C6 / Z51 / Z06 and 2005-2007 Cadillac XLR / XLR-V
6-Piston, 14.88” 2 Piece Rotor AP Racing Front Brake Kit Part # AP6000 (http://www.stillen.com/product.asp?id=APBRKIT6P&c=BR&r=&b=&make=chevrolet) and AP6000R (http://www.stillen.com/product.asp?id=APBRKIT6P&c=BR&r=&b=&make=chevrolet)
Our 6-Piston, 2-piece rotor AP Racing front brake system is the ultimate brake upgrade for the C6 Corvette. AP racing is the same manufacturer chosen by the factory C6.R race team. Packing a massive increase in stopping power, this kit gives the performance-minded driver full confidence whether at a track day or running the canyons. As with all AP Racing kits, it is designed to perform with the factory OE master cylinder and is fully compatible with factory ABS subsystems. The world famous AP Racing 6-Piston aluminum calipers with 14.88" (378mm) cross-drilled and slotted two-piece rotors ensure that your Corvette will stop time and time again, reducing the fade found in the stock brakes. This kit DOES FIT (http://www.stillen.com/PressReleases/PR07/HighResImages2007/AP6000R_Installed_PR_hi.tif) behind stock Z06 wheels. Complete with caliper mounting brackets, DOT-compliant stainless steel brake lines, Mintex Xtreme brake pads and all the necessary high-grade installation hardware.
Mintex Xtreme Pads do not compromise wear and noise for superior stopping capability. These pads are good from 0-1300º F and do not squeal like most "high performance" pads. They also work cold, unlike other compromised pads which may leave you shaken up on the first stops of the day.
Now you can possess the same advanced brake technology preferred in NASCAR, Formula 1, World Rally Car (WRC), Champ Cars, and more at an affordable price. A 4-Piston Rear kit is currently under development so you can upgrade every corner.
Available in two colors: Red calipers with black script or Black calipers with yellow script.
Other applications available. For more information, please contact Brake-Pros at 800-711-4123.
smokinvette 04-26-2007, 04:54 PM We have been running this Big Brake Kit provided by AP Racing for nearly 1.5 months and have to say we are VERY impressed with the performance, the ALL you need stopping power.
As many of you may be aware we have a couple project Corvettes that we have been building for a little while now. Part of the build we were forecasting to land this Vette around 550-600RWHP. With that in mind it was very important to have enough braking power "on tap".
After careful consideration and research among many great companies who build brakes for Corvettes we moved forward with AP Racing. We had spoken to 5-7 different brake companies, at the end AP Racing had the best performance brake and team supporting the brake was equally important.
I would like to add that our 2005 C6 is the Official 1st C6 anywhere to sport AP Racing's Big Brake kit! On top of that we have had some strong test's on the durability and reliability of this system and 100% recommend!

tomcat 04-27-2007, 09:14 AM Beautiful looking brakes! Those really stand out - alot :D Did you do the install or did they? You said you looked at some other companies, did you look into Brembo?
54crow 04-28-2007, 09:43 AM What will be the cost of a complete system? I noticed that the rears aren't available yet?
topdown 04-30-2007, 08:17 AM Man I love those brakes, I would like to get a set like that, need to wait a couple of months for budget. There are a few items that I need/want to install first. Not enough $$ :( for everything at once!
Z06crave 05-01-2007, 08:44 AM I'll agree, great looking set up you have, how is the brake dust from these pads? Are you getting the rears done up as well?

Brake dust is next to nothing, AP Racing as we speak are engineering the rear system. As soon as these are available we will be posting photos and information as well.
To answer previous question regarding Brembo's... yes we did look at Brembo, good company, matter of fact we had been talking to Brembo prior to AP Racing. I was invited to come down to the AP Racing office/warehouse in Costa Mesa and I have to say I was very impressed. I was give a tour of their location with great detail on many of their projects. I have to say I was very impressed with the time AP Racing took in showing me around and explaining all answers to all my questions. At the end of the day, after meeting the AP Racing team, and seeing the craftmanship that went into these brake systems along with some careful consideration it was an easy decision as to what brakes we where going move forward with. - AP Racing!
nyvette 05-07-2007, 06:06 AM Front end of your car looks alot different in this picture from your current photos! Great looking brake, that red really jumps out!
orlando.h 05-08-2007, 06:57 AM Here is a post I just put in the C6 section:
I have replaced the rotors, pads (2 times), tried putting shims and these brakes will still make a squeeking noise! The dealer says that many 2005's have this problem and there is nothing you can do about it?? I'm not hearing every Corvette on the road with squeeky brakes so whats the deal here? Thank you
Orlando
gerry rogers 05-16-2007, 08:08 PM the reason for sqeeking in most cases is leading edge friction if you will file that edge with small bevel it will stop hope this helps, gerry
docholiday 05-22-2007, 05:50 AM I agree that red just "pops" out from those black wheels that you have there. Great looking set up!
dads06 06-04-2007, 06:39 AM How do these compare to the stock Z06 brakes? I was told that the stock Z06 brakes aren't the best? Also there have been issues with these brakes failing/breaking? How true is this?

Getting on the market here for brake upgrade soon, looking at a bunch of things. I noticed this post was from awhile ago. How you like these after so long? Any problems? Will these fit under stock C6 wheels untill I get the new wheels? Thanks
Stillen 11-23-2007, 12:42 PM Will these fit under stock C6 wheels untill I get the new wheels? Thanks
Hey there,
Can’t answer the question about how SmokinVette likes the brakes after having them on for this time, but can maybe help with fitment under the stock C6 wheel. According to our documentation they will fit factory 18" front Z06 wheel with careful wheel weight placement. We haven’t checked the stock C6 wheels. If you shoot me an e-mail (PNicholson@Stillen.com) I will E-Mail you the fitment guide for the brakes so you can check your wheels.
If someone else has already checked, please let us know.
Let me know if I can be of any help.
Thanks

Hi there, here is a quote from a press release that went out a few weeks ago about our experience with these brakes:
"The front brakes were installed tale end of March 2007, giving us months to test the massive stopping power these brakes had to offer as we waited for the rear brakes to finish design and manufacturing process. All the components AP Racing used during the designing of these brakes play a very valuable part in what makes these brakes so amazing under normal street driving, just the same under quick deceleration. Moving from the stock Z51 brakes this 2005 C6 Corvette came with to this AP Racing performance braking system was no comparison. Hats off to you AP Racing, not only do these brakes look great, they perform equally as well!"
