: I hit the worst pot hole this morning!
Big Al 04-16-2008, 01:02 PM Holy crap this hole was hugh! I seriously had to pull over just to check the car over. The hole had to been 3-4" deep in the pavement! It felt like my car got hit by something. Is there any chance I could have bent a rim or something? If so, how would I know?
tstar 04-16-2008, 08:57 PM I hit one about a foot deep at WOT once and ruined a tie-rod end... Get up to highway speed and feel for any vibration or pulling.

This is the right way to check, if she starts to pull or vibrate in any way that you are not used to then it did some damage.
Lethal Tendencies 04-17-2008, 05:54 PM I hit a pothole 3 weeks ago with the wifes car. Had to replace the rim, replace the wheel bearing, front end alignment, and new tire.:ack2:
So it is possible you bent the rim. Look for any visible damage and listen for any diffrent road noise.
800bomber 04-17-2008, 06:05 PM have that wheel put on a spin balancer and have the alignment check. if anything is bent this will pick it up
tstar 04-17-2008, 09:41 PM If you're going to check the balance do yourself a favor and find a Road Force machine near you!

smokinvette2 04-18-2008, 06:39 AM I hope everything is ok with your vette, nobody likes to hit big pot holes including myself. I had the Lingenfelter front chin spoiler on and I was driving in LA when I hit a pretty sizable pothole and it cracked the chin spoiler! I was not a happy camper at that time! I am just very careful when ever I drive through cities or back roads!

I would say I'm the lucky one. I have never hit a pot hole the size you all are talking about. Can believe some of the damage reports I'm hearing.
sting75ray 04-21-2008, 05:26 PM Come out to the Oklahoma panhandle and drive. The damn ditches out here are smoother than our hiways.:mad5:

Been there, done that. Was driving back from Colorado one time just before dawn, and the pot hole from hell sprang out of nowhere with no time to react. I swear that thing all but swallowed my car (A Supra at the time).
Pulled over to inspect the damage and it had bent one of my chrome rims and put a huge bubble the size of a silver dollar on the sidewalls of both right side tires, which happened to be brand spanking new Goodyear Eagles. Those tires (225/50/16) weren't as low profile as the ones on my 2K Vette or I have no doubt it would have completely trashed the rims as well as the tires. No apparent damage to the suspension surprisingly. Knock on wood I haven't hit any major pot holes yet with the Vette, which is nothing short of a miracle living in So. Cal..

Thanks for the link . I was looking for a good place to mount the wheels I just bought for my C5 and it helped me to find a good shop with the right equipment and professional installers. Haven't had good luck when I've taken my car to the dealer for tire work to put it mildly.

I hit a pothole & bent a rim and ruined a tire. It was very obvious where the rim was bent, and there was also a sidewall bulge at the spot.
skeelo58 04-23-2008, 05:27 AM I guess you've never driven in ND before have ya? We have so many flippin potholes here, it is ridiculous.
There is 4 seasons in ND, and they arent Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall. They are Winter, still winter, still winter, and Road Construction. They basically have to repave every single major road every 6-7 years cuz of the insane potholes we get here. Man, I need to get out of this state! :)
