Ive heard in the last two months in just some random places that the C4 was the worst production Vette ever:confused: As a C4 owner I was shocked to hear this...

When the C4 first dayveiwed it was the most advanced car on the planet that was affordable to you and me....I think it was rushed into prodution but the realworld is the best test grounds for a new car right? More expensive cars of the day only had one or two of the features of the C4.Yeah the Digital Dash was new ASR,TPI,Ride Control,Bose Sound System,ABS,On Board Engine Management System just to name a few of the features. But the C4 had alot of these features stock.Yeah the C4 could have used more power but it gave me a project when I desided to fix her up...The C4 had some big mile stones and theres so many cars today that copy it and dont even come close; but the bottom line is I love my C4 and its still more advanced then most cars today...:D

Any thoughts or anything to add on this matter guys?

I'm not certain as to your source of this information? A Vette is a Vette if you want my 2 cents! I agree the C4 was one of the best sports cars of its time and still holds up with most today! I'm with you:)

Thanks...:) I got the info from one of those car mags. I forget the name but theres just so many of them and I've heard some people comment on the matter in other forums...But there is tons of bais people everywhere. I believe those bais people dont like all the attention every Vette gets:D So they take the other side and make unjust comments along the way forgetting that everycar is a work of art and theres something for everyone.:)

I enjoy my C4 very much, it has it problems from time to time for example my horn is acting up (will be placing another post on this), its a fun car to drive, I get attention in my town with it and it moves along on the pavement when I need her to! Your going to get a bias group of people on any subject!:D

I'm on corvette #11, all prev were c1,c2,c3, purchesed this year w/69k, after normal maint & TLC I can tell you that up to this point, meaning in the evolution of corvette, it is the best corvette up to 1984! I am very pleased with the tight interior and firm ride, if I had wanted interior space and a blvd. ride I could have gotten a Buick Park Ave. the beauty part of the C4 is that it improved in later years.:)

I've owned a Vette for the last 20-25 or so years, my last Vette that I purchased happens to be my '87 C4 and I love the car, I've thought about getting a new one. Always decide on not parting with my C4, its been a very reliable and fun car to own.

My 84 Vette may not be the fastest or the best looking Corvette out there, but its mine, paid for and I think its a great car! Don't get me wrong if I had the resources to get a new one I would, actually I would keep the 84 and just take turns driving them!

I think a magazine would say that because they're comparing it to the next generation vette. The difference between a C4 and a C6 are probably as big as from a C1 to a C4...

Compare the C4 to a Porsche 944 turbo or maybe 928 from the same time period. Or the Shelby Daytona! The C4 was a damn fine car for the late 80's when NO ONE was making very good quality cars! (I had a 84 Monte Carlo SS, and I remember sitting in the NEW 84 Corvette and going......"WoooooooW!")

There were some reliability issues on C4's and I think they got a bad name for a few problems (ALL cars have them) that everyone else in the world blew up, because LOTS of magazines (won't name any names) just hate Corvettes because it's an American sports car.

I have a 1985 C4 I ordered new in December 1985. It came in during February 1986. I have had it for 23 years now and I have only replaced the water pump, spark plugs/wires, tires and hoses. I would say it's been a pretty good. I have a 2004 Lamborghini Gallardo with a MSRP of $189,000 that I have had more problems with in 3 years then I have had in 23 years with the C4.

The C4 I own I have had for over 9 years, built it into show car then did major performance upgrade, Naturally Aspirated 383 Ci, this car still gives me great buzz to drive and I never tire of it, certainly would be hard to part with, a great reliable car for regular driving or if need the adrenilan rush car runs hard, best ET 11.62

Check around and you will each model has had its own nuances. There are minor problems that have happened with all of them. I looked at C5's and C6's and decided on a C4 because I liked the look of it. Not real crazy about the looks of some of the newer ones. You would be surprised to hear how dedicated corvette people have bought the newer models only to go back to the C4 for the feel of it.

The newer cars are more comfortable to drive but you don't get that true sport car feel of the C4. A little rugged and a little rougher, but fun to drive!! Just my 2¢ worth.

I have an '87 and though it has its problems, this car has given me so much pleasure over the years. Can't imagine this could be the worse production Vette. Now if someone is coming into the Vette world for the first time and has a new C6 and old C4 in front of him to make a decision which is better... well of course the C6 will win.

If the C4 was such a bad car then why did the C4 Vett win the Corvette Challenge and finally discourage the Porsche's from running. The challenge cars only had a custom engine to control HP and safety equipment in them everything else was production.

I used to own a 2000 C5 a few years ago, had some financial problems that caused me to have to sell the car. Earlier last year I had to get back into a Vette and didn't want to finance anything so I found a used 1985 C4 for a good price. You know what, I like the this car more than I did the 2000!

Disagree, I owned a '73 that I had more problems than my '85. I think any car you going to have problems with sooner or later. The C4 was the highest production car that Corvette put, plus these cars are in the mileage and age range where more problems will be surfacing. Wait 10 years after the C5's, I bet more problems keep surfacing for these. Just my opinion! :)

Funny, the only thing ive heard negative about vetts is that the c4 was the last real corvette, because the c5 and newer does not have the purebread race car feel in the steering, suspension, and interior. I was told by the vette dealer that chevy was getting complaints about too rough of a ride in their $50k sports car. lol. I love all vetts personally. But I def. like the ride of my c4 the best.

Ironic huh? The suspension and such is definately more rough in the C3's and C4's, its just more of a old school sports car, to me you feel more in control? Know what I mean, you aren't relying on some fancy computer, its you the car and the road! ha ha ha theres my philosopy!

I one of those guys you hear about that saved all their money and bought a new Vette when they came home from the Army. Well that was 1975 and just three years later I gave up my dream car to get that first house. Back then I promised myself I'd get another some day. After raising two kids and burning 20 years I finally realized that promise and got my second Vette. An 87 convertible and I love it. In three years of ownership the only things I had to replace were the power brake booster and an alternator. It has a great sound through the Pacesetter mufflers, and the engine gets more than a quick look at the car cruises. I love this convertible, and swear that's all I want in the future.

You have to remember that the C4 is getting older. I feel that C4 vettes are more reliable than any other car of the same age. They have always been GM's testing ground for new technology for their other cars. There aren't too many production cars that give you that feeling when crusing down the road! C5s and even C6s will fall into the same catagory in due time. There are people that drive cars and then there are the Vette drivers!!

To me, my 87 Corvette is the Seattle Mariners.

Their is no WORST CORVETTE. They are all wonderful in their own way.

The BEST CORVETTE is the one you drive :)

I love my 87 for its speed and handling, but owned a 73 and loved that for the streamlined c3 look :)

First of all, I have only one car. 1991 c4 coupe black automatic 2,59 rear. See it this way, if you would own a 2004 corolla with zero problems and 69 mpg you wouldn´t have the vette forums to discuss your problems-issues-findings-great tech tips-and god knows what more... Maybe someone is going to bang on my head now but you get the pros with the cons and the cons with the pros. I like mine anyways, drive it all year round here in Sweden summer or winter. People point fingers at their foreheads here but mine doesn´t rust and has the same or in some cases even better milage then a volvo v70. Beat that I use to say...

I totally agree with you, I have run into a couple of very biased people out there about the C4. To them it did not look like a Vette, it was to European and it fell apart all the time. The one that told me that drives a Toyo Silica that looked like it came out of the wrecking yard. I love the looks of my 89. It has small problems, but what car doesn't. I bought mine for pure enjoyment and with no regrets. The C4 is in my opinion has one of the best designs out there and it is a proven design, both in looks and in the mechanics of what it was designed to do. I not so sure the C5 and C6 would be what they are with out the landmark developments the C4 came with, but that's my opinion.

The C5 revolutionized corvettes altogether for less money than the C4's. They were ten times the car for less money in performance and handling. Every car in the 80's was hurting for performace. Corvettes were really expensive. Then the 1985 mustang came along offering what was a very fast car for almost no money. So the C4 was overshadowed. Its really just a matter of timing. They cant be too bad if the KITT dashboards are still working in them.

This whole thread takes me back to the mid 70's when there were little if any after market parts around at that time and one had to scour swap meets every weekend for NOS, there were alot of self proclaimed gurus at the events and all they wanted to do was be critical and show how smart they were. We called them "CQ's" (Corvette Queers) then and they still are. I've owned Corvettes since 1961 and these people never change theres just more of'em. Solution: Keep away from these MORONS don't let'em take the joy from you.

I own a 96 C-4,I never thought of these (C-4's) as a true vette, until I drove it,I love it and yes some of the frist C-4's were, well not as put together as the later ones, but we all have to learn as well as the car manufactures do,but the performance was still there,,moreso than the last C-3's,so with that the C-4's were a leap ahead of alot of cars even by today's standards,so be proud of your C-4 and the people that talk bad about them,LOL,they just wish they had one!My wife gets alot of guys looking and waving at her, whenever she is behind it's wheel!

I love my 96. I wouldn t trade it even for a new C6. Love the way it is styled from all directions in and out. Quality is tops and fun, fun and fun. So I have what does it for me but I like them all. A few people seem to need to knock what they don t have or what they sold to get a C5 or 6. Guess they will never be happy:patriot:

How true how true!! I am going to have my C4 for a long time!!:burnout:

I'll bet who ever said this rediculous statement never owned or drove a C4. I've loved my car since I bought it. As for power issues early on they were a little weak, but weren't all cars in the 80's. The power issues were fixed in 90's with the LT5, LT4 and LT1. :burnout:

My thoughts too! The C4 is a great Vette and I have driven them all and other than the C5's and C6's being newer the C4 was right there in my opinion!

I had a Z-51 packaged 86 (White with gray interior) that I traded in on a whim in 98'. I was traveling alot and just about got the car where it should have been when I bought it. It then needed a new heart after 73K, and I just didn't have the time. This was due to the lack of maintenance from the previous owners. So, you can not blame that on the car. It was a great driving car, (A little rough on I680) and the brakes were great for that time. That is what made me buy my C6, the memory of selling a car I shouldn't have sold.
I actually liked the doug nash 4+3 in it, anyone else feel the same?

The C4 is a very powerful performance tool, especially on curves, they really went to town on this one to keep up with the Euro's, C4 is a very agile performer.

It felt to me as I drove c5s and c6s attempting to compare them that the c5 was powerful but not quite as capable as the c4 in the extreme ranges(gut feeling) and the c6 felt really civilized. I dunno I guess I just like a stiff ride with lots and LOTS of road feedback.

+1
Drove a friends C6 with paddle shift & although it was fun it had a detuned suspension feel & felt similar to the C5.
Went from a 89 to a 99 & came back to a 90 coupe with selective ride, brake & handling package. Going joy riding this AM in the mountains.
