: Question about Methanol kits

I just picked up a Methanol kit and was wondering if I'm spraying this into my intake. Won't some of the Methanol make it into the motor, with the oil???

How bad is this for the motor?

If you were way over on the jeting maybe. The meth will not get in the oil for the same reason the gas does not get in.
When used right it will not hurt your baby.

It cools the cylinder and the water itself does not make it through. Its reducing the temperature of the air present in the cylinder, not actually dumping water in. This cooling helps curb detonation. Same as moisture in the air making it cooler if that makes more sense to you.

Where are you planning on spraying the meth?
Usually we put it in the air bridge usually towards the front of the air bridge area. That way if you have *any* issues with the meth, it won't run into the motor directly it will have to evaporate out.

Which kit did you purchase?
Are you running a 50/50 mix or 100% Meth?

Give us a call if you have any questions.

The meth won't make it directly to the oil but you have reason to be concerned about the placement. Simply putting the nozzle in the air bridge does not ensure that you won't have issues such as siphoning.

Consult the manufacturer and when in doubt get multiple professional opinions.

I have a 100% kit that I have been holding off on installing for this same reason. So if I understand correctly, as long as it is installed right, then I should not have any problems?

There was one issue with the Alky Controls/ECS kit but I think they may have it resolved now. It had to do with low battery voltage triggering the meth to turn on if the initial or turn-on pot(s) were not set correctly. IIRC the quick fix was adjusting the turn-on pot.

I have been using water/meth on both my C5 and GMC pickup for about 4 years now. I even helped design a 3D smart controller with touch screen.

If you were to look into the hole in intake where throttlebody is you cannot even see the runners as most of the intake manifold is a reserve. All air runners get are at the top so if the water/meth sstem was not functioning correctly where instead of spraying a vapor but puddling the water/meth it in most cases would end up in the airbridge and roll out to aircleaner, else bottom of intake and is too heavy to get up to runners.
Problems happens if the brand you have has a lousy controller design and not proper pump pressure. For water/meth to be forced through the nozzle and turn to vapor the pressure has to be higher then what the engine has and not using too large of a nozzle.
For most NA engines a 375 mL nozzle will be about all that is needed.
Good water/meth pump will be at least 150 PSI and quickly cease to flow when trigger function is lower then the trigger point you set.

Also the nozzle muct be kept clean, if it has a filter check it every 4 months or so as if it clogs then instead of vapor w/meth could enter airbridge as droplets.

If using winter version of windshield washer fluid that has meth in it then check nozzle more often as most WW fluid uses cleaned dry cleaner methanol and has small amount of lint.

Correct pump pressure, clean system, correct nozzle size and a well designed controller and raw fluid would never get to pistons other then in a vapor form.
