: How much HP is reasonable to expect?

I have a '74 L48 with the original 350 engine. It has the original camel humper heads on it. I'm not sure if these are 76cc or 64 cc heads. The compression ratio is 8.5 to 1. Does anyone know?

I'd like to keep the short block relatively unchanged but change intake, cam, heads, exhaust as needed to get about 400 HP from this engine. Is this realistic?

I am OK with raising the comression to 9.5 to 1 by changing the heads but any higher than that I worry about needing better than 93 octane.

For intake I am looking at the Edelbrock multi-port EFI. Not sure about heads yet. Suggestions?

Will I need a super charger to reach my 400 HP goal and still be streetable for a daily driver?

Thanks.

Nice wish list! With all that you are planning on that 350 you should clear 400hp w/o having to bolt on a supercharger of some sort. actually I was just looking at the naturally aspirated thread, LOL have you watched those videos? there is a C5 (don't know the year) that is naturally aspirated and it looks like it has some serious power. It looks like that would be a good spot to ask your question. good luck and keep us posted!

Cowboy looks like you have a nice project infront of you. You may want to view http://www.smokinvette.com/corvetteforum/showthread.php?t=472

The gentleman with the silver C5 in the video is Tony with
AirFlowResearch. He is considered as one of the "who's-who" when it comes to N/A engines and will be able to answer your questions on your project.

Keep us posted on what you do, and when you get the engine in with a dyno - post it please! would like to see what you where able to get at the wheels!

Looks like Gerry has the winning recipe of power here, what where the specs on the cam? And whos headers did you go with to get that power?

I've been under the hood all day today. I'm putting in a new waterpump and a fresh set of intake manifold gaskets. While I was removing the manifold I noticed the old intake gaskets had a metal screen over the intake ports (between the manifold and head). I assume this was to keep debris out of the cylinder but it seems it would restrict airflow too. Also the port for the #6 cylinder was missing the screen. Perhaps it got sucked through the engine? I've never seen gaskets like them before. The new ones I installed (FelPro) don't have the screens.

Now this is something to look forward to.

Sure It Can Be Realistic, but You Must Have The Correct Combo Of Parts 70% Of All Shade Tree Engine Builders (parts Changers) Think They Have To Have A Huge Massive Cam And Massive Carb To Build Horse Power (wrong) Just Remember Everything Revolves Around Everything Else,to Put Together A 400 Hp Engine I Would Go Ahead And Rebuild The Bottom End,at The Least Bearings And Rings, that Would Be Like Putting A Pace Maker On A Corpse If You Didnt,as Of Getting 400 Hp,sure Its Possible, but Keep In Mind You Need To Build Torque Also, keep Your Intake Low And Your Cam In A Moderate Torque Range (30/30) Duntov, dart 205 Heads,msd,650 Holley,hei,1.6 Rollers, there You Go Pretty Close To 400 Hp.

Good info! Say do you know where I can get a OEM replacement radiator? Mine is bad and don't want to fix, just to replace? Thanks!

Hi I dont know if you already have order parts or are finish but here you can se a kit fron Edelbrock
you have 76cc chamber I think

Using our 70cc heads (#60739) and flat top pistons, or our 64cc heads (#60899) and slightly dished pistons, should keep your compression ratio around 9.25 - 9:1. These heads should get you in the neighborhood of 320 HP. Upgrading your camshaft to a roller (such as our #2201 w/ roller lifter kit #97383) and changing your compression ratio to 9.5:1 should get you up around 350 – 375 HP.
