I'm all for better handling and all, but at my age I'm building my 81 for daily driver street use and longer road trips and don't want to end up with a buckboard or race-car ride, either.

And - the VBP site doesn't specify if their dual mount system for an 81 also works with their 6 link. That 6 link would be a priority for me over a dual mount if push came to shove.

Just looking at it in comparison to the standard mounting system, it would seem that with less spring length to work with it the spring would have less opportunity / length to flex, or have to flex more within the shorter length to equal the ride of a standard mount system.

Make any sense?

Along the same vein, I really like what I read about front mono-leaf setups, but (1) don't want to lower the car any - I know it says it's adjustable, but the write-ups also say it lowers the car 1", and (2) I have the same question concerning ride quality -

Thanks!!

I recently changed from my stock multileafe spring to the composite spring & reinforced diff cover from vbp, it actually raised the rear end back to what would look to be stock ride height. I love the ride it provides. I don't know any thing about the six link, but there is a guy on one of the other vette forums doing a four link conversion.

I can see the wisdom of a reinforced rear diff cover, but was yours an 80-82 or earlier?

I'll have to look and see if they make one for an 81.

I was particularly concerned about the ride from a dual mount rear spring or the monoleaf front.

Thanks for that tip on the reinforced cover!

the reinforced rear cover is for 79 and earlier, Eaton Iron differential....the 80-82 has a Dana 44 Aluminum differential..the rear cover is actually the crossmember.I don t see where the dual mount would make it ride softer, its intended to improve handling in corners ...less flex = stiffer ride

That's what I was kind of figuring.

I think I'll just go with replacing my oem composite - the clamp plate is split in 2, otherwise the spring looks OK, but I'd probly want a 330 or 360 spring anyway as I'd be traveling with luggage and a passenger on some longer trips, and even pulling a small trailer with a 550 lb bike on it occasionally.

Yeah, I'm well aware of what diff I have. I've got to rebuild it, so have looked at what's available for gears while I'm at it.

Just trying to explore all options and be as informed as I reasonbly can before I start waving the plastic!

If you are looking at rebuilding the differential or just getting one already built, http://www.duntovmotors.com/differentials-80-82.php ...they have everything you will ever need, for a C3.. reasonable prices and first quality stuff.. talk to Edward.

Thanks!

Leads / referrals like that always much appreciated.

I do all my own work, so will be looking for parts.
Will definitely check him out.
