: Swirl marks in black paint
topdown 04-24-2007, 07:05 AM Black cars look great but I have never gotten how in the h*ll do you keep the swirl marks out of the paint? I have used various waxes, clay bars, etc and in the right light something always shows?! Any suggestions?
Appreciate your input
smokinvette 04-24-2007, 07:29 AM We have similiar issue with your black '05, I just picked up some Mequires stuff that is supposed to work, haven't used it yet, will keep you posted!
tstar 04-24-2007, 02:10 PM Kit Scratch Out has worked wonders for me... If you haven't done it yet, clay bar your Vette first.... then buff it out with the Scratch Out, there will be many smiles upon your face!
LOL

How you doing Tim? We tried one of those clay kits last weekend and didn't notice much difference from, hitting it up with a buffer and polish? Is there something that we missed?
tstar 04-24-2007, 05:13 PM I'm not sure, what did you use? If the clay didn't do much then you're paint was already really clean! On a dark car Use a black foam polishing pad, it looks like that foam egg crate stuff you put on top of a bed??? Light colored cars are supposed to use the white foam pad.
Let me double check my stuff and I'll post it... I know when I get serious, I hit the bad scratches and swirls with Scratch Out then go over the whole car with the foam pad and two grades of 3M poilsh, I'll double check the names...

tstar 04-25-2007, 04:29 PM I've had great results using a "Quick Detailer" as the lubricant for the clay, never had a problem... It's amazing when you do the plastic bag test before and after!
02RonZ06 04-25-2007, 07:01 PM Since I first got introduced to the clay bar treatment, I have done all my vehicles since then. I did my 02 Z06 after bringing it home from Vermont to Tennessee, 1200 mile drive back.

What is the plastic bag test? I know some people who swear by clay. Never heard a word about plastic bag test? :D
tstar 04-26-2007, 05:08 PM Place your hand in a plastic sandwhich bag and rub your hand (in the bag) over your freshly cleaned car surface, you'll feel the dirt that's imbedded in your paint that will not come out by washing. THen after yo clay bar the surface do the bag trick again.... to check your results!
It's pretty wild...
