OK, this might be a little bit of overthinking on the subject but here goes. When looking at X pipes online from different mfgs. you will notice that right at the point where the pipes cross over they will have a little bit different shape from one mfg. to another. Some will have a simple joint and others will have a very pronounced curving of the pipes and a deliberate crossover joint. The question is; does this affect the exhaust note in any way particularly at idle? I know the two main reasons for an X pipe are to provide for better scavenging at lower RPM's and to get rid of the "motorboat" sound at idle but I wondered if some brands of X pipe would sound "cooler" at idle than others. Does it matter what brand of X pipe I install? Will they ALL sound the same? Am I overthinking this?

I don't believe they will all sound the same but any x-pipe will eliminate popping as compared to the stock H-pipe.
As I understand it, the inventor of the x-pipe is DrGas - http://www.drgas.com
You can see in the picture here: http://drgas.mybisi.com/product/c6-z06-corvette-x-over-pipe
the style of X they use.
There are so many variables though. YMMV....

@C5inSB---Thanks for the reply. I never knew DrGas ever existed until now. Good information. Kind of makes me glad I asked the question on here. Last night I ordered the Corsa Xtreme axleback system (P/N 14132) from Modern Automotive Performance. I am intentionally not going with the X pipe for now as I don't know what I want to do in that area. I see that DrGas offers a "generic" X-over joint in various pipe sizes to suit your installation. This leads me to believe that you could cut the "H" portion out of your stock H pipe and splice this in. I like the radiused shape of the joint I wonder if it has an effect on the popping noise on deceleration or the overall sound of the idle.

Moving to any x-pipe over the h-pipe will reduce the popping on decel....

The X-Pipe eliminates most of the popping and burble that usually happens on deceleration.

Most, but certainly not ALL!
