So I made a vid of my engine. A few of you guys helped me with the ticking sound it is comeing from the drivers side ( I went out and rechecked) But I had a few plugs or electrical ends not pluged in and I didn't notice a big difference when I would take off each plug wire. (I can't hear that well anyways ask my wife LOL)

If you think your engine is missing pull the spark plugs and examine them. Then while they're out do a compression check. The switch on the right rear is to turn on your electric fan.

If your engine has good compression and a good spark it should run great.

I put new wires cap and rotor in about 6 months ago. And the plugs looked pretty good then I just cleaned them up a bit. I'm going out to buy a compression tester this afternoon. So Since I know my plugs were clean 6 months ago it should really be able to tell me exactly which cylinder is acting up.

Hum I guess I'll dig around in those wires to see if I can see where it plugs into.

Thanks

Since your engine is just an air compressor with spark plugs a compression test is necessary to judge the health of your engine. If your compression is good in all of the cylinders then you likely have an ignition problem. Your spark plug wires should have about 25,000 ohms resistance. If you find one that has NO resistance that means the inner carbon core is burned out and that wire should be replaced. Keep me up-to-date and I'll walk you through the troubleshooting.

Thanks Toobroke You (Fish and the other guys ) always have been a big help. I'm going to put new spark plugs in anyways since I will have the plugs out. Would you do the iridium plugs or just like a platinum? Anyways with Christmas here I won't be able to for a few days but once I do I'll be sure to post something. I bought the compression tester lastnight. Hopefully for Christmas I'll get some gift cards for some new plugs LOL

I would remove the VC and take a look at the play in the rocker arms. You may have a weak or collapsed lifter.

That maybe true I know I do have 1.6 aluminum rockers which with put more strain on the springs.

Standard spark plugs are plenty good. You won't realize any gain whatsoever by going to exotic metal spark plugs.

you may just have an adjusting nut loosened up..pull the cover and end the mystery. as to spark plugs, toobrokes right, any quality plug will work just fine..I use Autolite Platinum in all my cars..

couple of other thoughts, can you feel/hear any difference between the left and right side exhaust outlets? If you have access to a heat detector gun, you can aim it at the exhaust manifold or headers and see if any locations are hotter (or colder) than the others. These methods followed by visual on the lifters are how we determined I had a flat cam lobe.

sweet idea yeah thats how I found out I had a bad spark plug wire before I just totally forgot about it. I'll try that out.

If you take good care of spark plug wires they'll easily last 500,000 miles or more. I always use plain-Jane Beldens as their quality is as good (or better) as OEM. Severe heat and mechanical damage is what destroys spark plug wires so be sure to use heat shields around your spark plugs and use care when handling them.
