The drivers seat on my 86 Vette needs to have some restitching done along the edge. The upholstery shop told me to remove the back seat panel (the leather with the foam below it) and bring it to him. He told me it just pulled off. But from the manual it appears that it is held in place by a metal rod and metal clips. How should I go about removing this panel? Also, any suggestions, the passengers seat is in excellent condition, are the back and lower seat panels the same on the drivers and passengers side, if so should I swith sides with the panels or just leave the more worn units on the driver's side of the car. Thanks

When I removed my seat backs I got a good firm grip on either side(left or right) of back and pulled, forced, jerked INWARD whatever it took and that side released, the seat back will then be loose in your hand. For the reinstall took to auto upholstery shop paid $10.00 per back, beleive me its worth the 20 bucks if its a struggle. You can drive to upholstery shop with seatback just positioned in place..............REMEMBER "INWARD".
