In the process of removing seats, carpet, rust from the latest project. Found a single broken purple wire running from under the dash along the drivers side sill.... and ending in a break. Nothing from the rear forward. The rear window is not defroster equipped.
Ideas?

Could you post a pic? I would be glad to check my 76 and see if I have the same wire. Also I would grab a multi meter or test light and check for constant 12v power or switched power with the key on/off, might help narrow down the options of where the wire may be intended to go to.

First of all, do all of your gauges and rear lights work? The wire could be for anything in the rear that requires power. It could be for the stop lights, turn signals, back-up lights, window defroster, powered antenna, or fuel gauge.

Don't know if this sight will help. Is there power to it (with key on/off)?

Thanks so far...
Sorry no power, dash is out for rehab.
All exterior lights, brakes, plate lights, turn signals worked fine before dash removal. Radio did not work...But.
I traced the opposite end to a three hole (female) connector, not attached to anything that was stuffed under the center console behind an after market cheap radio...
One "purple", one yellow(ish) and one black wire. Then to the electrical schematic and I think my "purple" is/was gray and could be "part of I.P. harness". Only thing is the schematic shows the "gray" being for the dial light...if so, to the rear of the car doesn't make sense (to me).
Thanks for the help.

By the way,
The photo morph from what your car was, to what it is, is great.

I don't know if this will help but I have a 74 with a rear defroster. The wire going to it is purple. You wont get any power to it until you flip the switch which is located on the drivers side of the center console.

I know my harness is different than your '76 but if you had a rear defroster (someone may have removed it) that wire may go to it.

I understand you said it was not equiped with it...but maybe it was there....

The actual motor is located in the drivers side rear quarter section way in the back by the antenna.

These are old pictures when I first picked the car up so sorry about the mess....

You can see the wire in the upper right hand corner of the picture.

Hope this helps....
