Eddit: stupid thing wouldn't let me review the post, so it has the wrong title. :( Can anyone change the title to "Minimum required?"?

Ok, so... I'm trying to decide, between getting a Crate motor, and a TT setup.

Eventually I'll have both when my pocket book agrees with my wants.

Anyways the choice is between getting a LSX 454, or a STS TT.

Now with the STS kit I can just bolt it on to my stock 98 C5 A4 with no issues, and bump it to 480/480 at the wheels on 8 PSI.

But the LSX 454 base crate motor makes 570/580 something stock. I'm not sure if that's crank or at the wheels.
But with the LSX 454 I could sell my LS1 to help pay for it, means less out of my pocket.

So that brings us back to the question. What would be the bare minimum for a LSX 454 install in a C5 A4?

Could the stock suspension hold it?
I know upgrade the breaks. I already have some picked out.

What about the drive shaft, the transmission, the rear end?

What would I all have to worry about breaking, other than my neck when I stomp on the throttle?

Personally I would go the engine route, although I think the TT will be easier.

The numbers on the 454 crate would be crank numbers, either way that would be the way I would go!

keep in mind, when you increase the horsepower , you increase the strain on all the driveline..big increase, big strain...something will break.

So a nice 454 set up would be great!!!!

I wouldn't know what to do with all that power!

I would find alot of fun in a car with that kind of power!

TT's in my opinion.

What's going to be your choice?

The LSX 454 will give you pleanty of power, and the TT will also huff and puff, But you will be able to build even more power with the 454. After all..........it's not like you ever will have enough horsepower. Besides that, the rotating assembly is much stronger on the LSX. Enjoy the ride!

Anyone know much an engine swap is on our cars? I don't know enough, nore do I have to the tools, or shop to do it in. :(

I think I might go with the 454 set up intially. If I can sell the LS1 that is. How much do they usually sell for?

If not I know I can get the TT set up for no mor ethan 7,000 installed. Which will make 600 HP at the crank on 8 psi, or 480 HP at the wheel. Taking into account 20% drive train loss due to an A4.

I'm going NA, to start, then TT it later when I can afford it.

Good luck, on the note of an engine swap it gets expensive in a hurry. I switched from a small block to a big block. Put a new tranny in, drive line ect. Honestly your probably looking between 5/10 grand to get it back on the road driving. Lots of working and adjustments to get this right.

boy, you said a mouthful! anytime you start cranking up the horsepower that much, its a domino effect on every component in the driveline..
