: Getting smoke smell out of car?
Birdman 04-02-2008, 01:30 PM I just bought my first Corvette a 2003 C5 Coupe. When I went to the dealer and test drove, the windows where down and I didn't notice any smell other than the fresh air freshener. When I picked up the car the windows where still down. Well now I have owned the car for about a week and it smells like an ashtray! The cigarette lighter is disgusting! I don't smoke and don't know what I can do.
Is there any way to the smoke smell out of the car?
Thank you.

That might be one of the toughest if not the toughest smell to get out. Especially if it was smoked in alot. I don't know what to tell you other than keep cleaning it and maybe it will go away after a long while.:ack2:
sting75ray 04-02-2008, 07:05 PM Lots and lots of Febreeze. It will get it out guicker than anything we have ever used. Bought a van years ago that my grandparents owned and a pickup from my father 3 years ago. They all smoked like crazy in these vehicles. I still to this day won't let anybody smoke in any of my vehicles. Dad lit one up in his 62 the first day he brought it home last summer. I bout **** but what can you say.:banghead: http://www.smokinvette.com/corvettephotos/data/500/medium/DSC03648.JPG

Thanks for the comment. I can't believe dad smokes in this car.:banghead: He knows better than to smoke in my vette. He rode to Tusla 2 years ago with me after I bought my new truck. Longest trip of my life. Had to stop every 50 miles so he could burn one.

tstar 04-04-2008, 01:35 PM Vinegar is supposed to work, but I don't know how to apply it.... Maybe search on the web?
Z06dreams 04-04-2008, 09:13 PM I would try alot of Febreeze, I used to work at Hardeez and every time I would use my truck's heater it smelled like a french fry so I let it run with the heater on and the doors open, windows down for a little less than 45min, that helped me but I'm not going to garenty anything.
Birdman 04-09-2008, 08:50 AM Thanks for all the help guys. I went back to the dealer and complained about it and they gave me $500 back. So I guess that is better than nothing.

I guess that is better than nothing. I would have told the dealer a few choice words. You might want to get the car professionally detailed. Those people have some heavy duty cleaners.
Black Label Vette 04-13-2008, 08:06 PM I was told you can rent an air purifier/ionizer and let it run with the windows closed for about a week. A friend of mine has a Luxrury Liberty Motorcoach that we used one of these in. We spent the weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway and if you have ever been there, alot of people burn camp fires at night. The whole coach stenched of smoke. After running the air purifier for a week, you could not smell any smoke. It worked great!! Scott in Myrtle Beach

Great tip, I'm going to give this a shot.
Ambalanche 04-24-2008, 06:44 AM I would also keep it out in the sun with the windows down and roof off and that should help!

I'm actually suprised the dealer didn't do this prior to selling it. They have detail people that can do this for much less than $500.00!! I'm glad they gave that to you though, at least pay for your aggrivation!
TCR-02 04-24-2008, 07:57 AM You should feel happy they gave you anything for it. Its a used car that you purchased as is.
