Looking for some suggestions here. I have a 2000 6sp manual coupe with the stock shifter. I want to replace it with aftermarket. Please post which shifter you have installed. I am interested in feedback on which brands/models are the best on the market and which ones should be avoided. I am looking to decrease my throw a little bit and hopefully smooth up the detents a little bit. My C5 shifts like a bus particularly from 1 to 2

I think that they are, or were, but yes I agree MGW is the hot shifter right now and I know alot of people are using them and love them.:thumbsup3:

I am very satisfied with my Hurst Competion Plus short shifter. Has adjustable stops for 2nd and 3rd and comes with several sets of springs to customize the feel for your own taste. I have a 97 vette

I'm leaning towards the MGW but I don't like the knob that MGW offers. Can I use my stock knob on the MGW shifter? Believe it or not; I like the shape and the leather feel of the stock knob. What about a nice leather boot to replace the stock one since the stick height will be shorter? where can I buy a really nice shifter boot? Mine is a daily driver. Thanks everybody for their input on here. This site is really cool.:thumbsup3:

Goggle the shifters look at both of them. I honestly don't have any experience with the MGW but I have been an industrial mechanic and machinest. I do have experience with Hurst. I am not knocking the MGW. It may be very good. If you do your own work you will see why I went with the Hurst. I also like the stock knob. it screws right on. The only problem is that crummy designed lock wedge that falls apart when you try to get it out of the stick so you can unscrew the knob. Enough Said.

BILLET/PLUS SHIFTER C5 Corvette

Hurst Billet/Plus Shifters incorporate a high ratio pivot mechanism for reduced shifter throw and are sturdily constructed for a more positive precise feel when shifting. Self centering alignment improves 2nd to 3rd up-shift gear changes to reduce the chance of “missed shifts”. Patented adjustable bias spring loads on most models allow stick tension to be tailored to drivers preference. Dedicated applications assure a custom fit and eliminate any vehicle modifications for ease of installation.

• CNC machined 6061 T-6 BILLET ALUMINUM base and stop collar
• Heat treated BILLET STEEL gear selector for ultimate strength
• High strength steel stick. NOT A CASTING!
• Adjustable positive gear stops to help prevent internal transmission damage
• Stainless steel rotating pivot insures smooth shifting and reduced wear
• Polymide pivot cup reduces stick vibration and noise transfer
• Self centering alignment for improved 2nd to 3rd upshift gear changes
• Patented adjustable bias spring load for ease of operation
• Exclusive oil control seal, on most models, to eliminate trans fluid loss and protect against contamination

I went with the Hurst Billet/Plus Shifter as well, I love the way it made my 6 spd feel like a real race car transmission with that positive feed back when its in gear, the stock shifter sucks. The Hurst imho seems to allow for a more accurate and persice shifting... specially when down shifting from 6th to 3rd for those highway changes when you need the extra rpm to go fast, fast. I've never missed a shift with the Hurst, I use to miss the 6th to 3rd shift pretty regularly when trying to down shift in a race or just having fun. I loved the option of combination springs you can use on it, it really allows you to fine tune the feel, weather slapping the stick to the right or pulling it to the left to find those gears quickly and easily.

I had a B&M at first and always wondered why everyone had positive things to say about MGW. I had never heard of them before, but placed my order for the shifter with two tops. ( one that excepts the stock knob, and one that is threaded) Yes the shifter is a two part stick. The MGW is by far the BEST shifter that I've owned. It makes a 2nd to 3rd gear shift smooth and easy. MGW gets my vote. ( B&M stick for sale... cheap):)
