Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem as I do when i remove the targa top from my 1992 coupe. My vette rides very nice when the top is on but when I take the top off, the steering wheel shakes when I hit any bump and it's just more rough. I heard that C4s handle bad with the top off but this is rediculous. Anyone else experience this?

Mine seems to do that also. My dad said that it was because it was an older car and that when I take off the top that the car looses some of its structural integrity and gets a little creeky! As long as my vette doesn't break in half when I am driving!

the c4 was never ment to be targa top they desinged it to be a Ttop but at the last minute changed it to full targa so it will flex pretty bad with the top off

Interesting factoid. Is there any after market parts that would help stifle this tremendous shaking, especially in the steering column? Would a crossmemenber under the hood help stiffen up the chassis?

they have theas that will help my shakes even with the roof on i think mine has bad ball joints thow

All C4 Corvette convertibles have a bolt on X member that stiffens the chassis you mite try installing one on your car. I have never done this bet it should help allot.

If you have cowl shake your front tires either need balancing or replacement. Our 84' shook like hell till new front meats were installed. Now with top on or off at any speed the only shake is over a rough country road w/top off, otherwise car is very very stiff.

new tires and an alinment didnt make it go away last year so balljoints are next:cheers:
