First, welcome to SV!.

Second, how many times have you changed the gear?
If replacing with nylon, go with brass.
There are kits made to change over to fixed lights.
Very $$$$ though.

twice...with nylon gears 2 new gears both times...this time the light keeps going up and down...the first time it would spin and not close. it has only 70,000 miles on it and has every option but power door locks...z51 hard hide but I love it. and it's black.:sheep:

If it's going up and down, then the gear is fine.
Check the wiring and relay for that headlight motor itself.
If their good, motor itself may be bad.
I don't have one, but perhaps someone can post a diagram for your '84 of the wiring.

Replace with the brass and see if that stops. I soon will be needing to replace my nylon gear with brass because when I shut my lights off you can hear the motor run for a few seconds. Sounds like there are horses galloping in my engine bay :X.

You have the later style (88-96) and the gear is likely fine, what you might need is just the bushings.

Thanks for the input, I will look into it soon enough. Not too long ago my right light was failing to come all the way up, would get stuck in the middle, I'd have to shut them off and bring them up again for the left to rise fully. Hasn't happened these past few days. I can see them acting out more in the future.

Tell people that your engine is very powerful and requires a mechanism to slow down the crankshaft after shut down.:smilielol5: And point out " No it's not dieseling. I can get away with, when I turn on my radio, and you hear it loading, I tell them, it's my secondary high flow fuel pump coming on   (No I haven't done so yet, but believe me, I plan to!!!!)

they clame to sell you delron bushings but it looks to me to be round plastic dowel .437 in diameter by .550 long and you need 3 for each light.

They look ugly in my opinion, thats why I gave you the link for the bushings to fix yours.
If you do this repair look at a lot of the write ups.You have to take the motors off and pull the gear box appart. There is also a little ballbearing that supports the worm gear that must go back.Contact me when you go to do this if you need anything.

Replacing the bushings takes about $4 and 1/2 hr per side (3/4 hr for first timers).
Non pop up headlight kits are about $1K and still don't look right on a C4 (IMO).
Take your choice, your car and your money.

:iagree:

Mid America sells them if you would still a change. I think it degrade the C4s and C5s.

I think The C4 has the best looking pop up headlights of any car I've ever seen.

Fixed mine with a $6 bushing kit. I upgraded to brass gears, but that was completely unneeded, they would in perfect condition.

Changing to a fixed headlight on a C4 would be my last option.

If the OP wants to get rid of the pop ups on a budget, then he'll have to know how to make parts & figure out things. This will include cutting, welding, fabrication, & making things out of fiberglass. If I was gonna try it, I'd go to a junkyard & see if I could find something that would be a good part to build from.
Another thing to think of, some endurance C4s used to have different lights where the fog light/turn signal would be. I don't know if that's legal or not (there's alot of newer cars w/ those thin Leds strip lights). Something to think of.:cowboy:

Having looked at it in my rear mirror, I think the fixed lights would look to much like the early '90's 300ZX that tried toying with me today.
