After my 72 vette would not fire, I removed the fuel line at the tank. Expecting a strong stream of Gas, I instead got a trickle of a black goo. Absolutely no gas would come out the bottom of the tank. How hard is it to change the fuel sender unit?

How much gas is (supposedly) in the tank? getting the pickup and sending unit out is no deal, but removing it leaves a 2-1/2 inch hole. It'll dump whatever is in the tank right quick fast and in a hurry. As in RIGHT NOW.

That is an easy way to clean a tank in the older Vettes- pull the sender, wash out the tank, dry it out, sender back in and add some fresh gas, check for leaks and then fill as needed.

There are 3 pieces- sender, O-ring, and a lock plate. There are tabs on the lock plate, use a brass or aluminum drift and a hammer to gently drive the lock ring around- look at it carefully and you can see how it goes together.
