Perhaps I have been out of the loop to long, but $7,000 does seem a little high to paint the car the same color? Or is this about right?

It seems very high to me. Vetts are hard to paint but a think 1-2000 would be more like what one would cost..."V"

If there's no body work to be done and going back the same color $3000.00 to $3500.00 tops. If your having a show car painted that is going to be color sanded after paint with 1000 grit, then 1500 grit, then buffed three time with coarse/medium then fine compounds you mite pay $7000.00.

David is correct, $3,000 to $3,500 should give you a very good paint job.........

$7,000 is a good deal if they will do the following:
prep the car correctly, 3 layers of paint , wet sand and buffed
but if they will just over spray your old paint that is way too much.
Some shop charges too much because they think all vette owners are rich. Im not, I don't know about you.... Find a small shop with good reputation, you can get a decent paint job for 2k to 3k but if you are looking for someone to over spray your car. In Cali one day paint co. or earl schive (I think i didn't spell it right ) but anyway they do it for less than a 1k with 6 month warranty and before or after a year you need a new paint job again.

:iagree: Now if you are getting a one of a kind, and I mean one of a kind paint job then maybe $7000!

$899 at maaco, they did a really nice job, it should be good for 5 years, then they will paint it again. I had it painted in Spokane WA, on sprague Ave. They do good work.

Why pay $7000, and have to repaint it in 5-7 years? Thats roughly just over $1000 a year!!!!!!

If maaco does it it will work out to be $180 a year or $15 a month.
Money talks. Those other shops do a little more prep work and maybe put on an extra coat of paint but basically the same.

Lets face it, a C4 isn't a show car. not yet any way, give it 10 years.

I know it sounds crazy but I've had my last three street rods painted at Maaco and they sent me home with a smile each time. The price was right and the job was done right as well....

Having been the Commericial account rep for two booming Macco paint shops, I would say to you, "do not run blindly to Macco or any other quickie paint shop without seeing their work, especially if you are the least fussy save your money." Having owned many Corvettes for 40plus years, I can tell you a quickie (cheapie)paint job will only devalue your your Corvette. A little aging or patina of your Corvettes paint is ok, as long as its not a "pig".

$2800.00, I found a local painter that paints on the side. I paid a local dealership to rent there paint booth, car looks great. Thanks to the forum I new what needed to happen, in short if you want your vette to look good it has to be taken apart that takes time. I also replaced all my seals $700.00, light lenes $$$$. I would like to thank forum members for all there info they share.

Reading all these replies about what it cost to paint makes me really glad I learned to do it all my self. I bitch about having to pay so much for the painting supplies these days. The prices has gone up so much in the last ten years or so. I'll be repainting my 89 soon. I get alot of satisfaction doing it my self.

$7000 for a paint job? :wtf: I am surprised with all the Maaco testimonials! I always thought of Maaco as a cheap and shitty paint jobs! Never had anything painted from them, just rumors! Heck, for what you guys have shared, next time I'm in need for paint I'm going to Maaco myself!

A dealer that sells Corvettes will not take them to MACCO and the dealer that does, knows the car has not been taken care of and is a peice of crap, just wanrs to make look good, send it down the road to someone who is looking for their first Corvette and hasn't a clue,or the auction . I know, as I was a dealer for years and spent time after retirement building the dealer business for two MACCO stores. You will get what you pay for.

You're right. I've heard really good things about Maaco from Vette owners from various franchises. There are some clinkers, though. Word of mouth checking is really important.

By the way, the few (if any) remaining C4s will be valuable collectibles in about 100 years. Waaaaaay too many of them made to have much value in 10 years except for the rare exceptions we all know about.
