I have a 1987 corvette with 142000 miles. It starts without a problem in the garage when it is cool but I drive a few miles and then stop somewhere. When I come out of the store, I get in the car, and I have not lovked the car nor activated the security system, and the car will not start. The engine will not turn over. The battery is fine and the lights come on and everything. However if I sit there for a while then it will eventually start. Sometimes it is twenty minutes sometimes it is three hours. But is has always eventually started. I have tried everything, opened all the doors and everything but without any luck. I thought it was due to the engine being hot and I let it cool down to 150 degrees (coolant) and oil even cooler. Three of the times, I have opened the rear hatch and then closed it and it has eventually started. One other time I just sat in the car and did not get out and then it started after twenty minutes, but it was in the shade and I think it cooled down quicker. This started when I was out and the engine over heated and got really hot, but I drove it home and the temperature was going down and when I pulled into the garage it overheated. I thought that maybe a wire may have melted and shorted out and melts when it gets hot and shorts out repeatedly and then cools. But I am at my wits end. The car always started repeatedly in the garage when it has sat for a few hours and I can start it and stop it and restart it when the engine is cold. The engine coolant get up to 233 degrees and the oil get up to about 222 degrees. I just do not know where to look, if you can give me some guidance I would appreciate it. The vette will not turn over what so ever now and my battery is good and the interior lights remain on when you turn the key.
