I've got an 86 which I bought about 3 years ago after the owner blew the engine (ugh) because he let the oil pressure fall to 0. I've been fixing it up ever since. My mechanic (who is a good one) replaced the blown L98 with a 5.7 L stock 350 which runs just fine as a cruiser but has no excitement as a Corvette. I'm not looking to burn up the streets, I just want to make it just a little more fun to drive. 300 hp would be just fine. So I've just about settled on an Edelbrock (2019) Power Package top end kit. I'm just wondering if that is the right decision, and also if anyone might have a better idea. Could use your advice. Thanks. :driving:

I had an "Edelbrock Performer RPM power package" top end on a 350 years ago. Eh. With the addition of TFS TW heads, it made 310 RWHP; all of that was above 3500 RPM. It was fine, but I was never impressed with it. Fun-to-drive, wise, my stock 270RWHP LT1 is much more fun, and actually runs about the same in the 1/4.

I think you could do better getting the pieces individually. For starters, the Edelbrock cams are out dated dogs.

Yeah. The Edelbrock Pkg. is a little pricey for what it gives you. That's why I thought there's probably alot better options out there. That stuff's just a little over my head. And I've been told I'll be asking for idling trouble if I put in another cam. Don't know who to listen to anymore.

What intake/ rear / stall are you planning to run?
Makes a lot of difference to head/ cam choice.
Is new engine roller cam ?

Plenty of cams out there that will perform well ( when matched to engine / intake ) and give muscle car
idle sound without giving rough idle
Just a matter of matching components to work together

Wow, I'm overwhelmed. The original replacement engine invoice shows a 350 Chev 2/B Short Block Assembly. I went to the part number and it shows it's for an 86-95 Chevy, 5.7 Liter 350 c/i 2 bolt main 1 Pc. R/S - F.I. - Dish Piston. I do know that if we needed anything else, we went new instead of re-using existing engine parts like valves, etc. Outside of that, I have no idea what's inside. That's why I thought maybe the Edelbrock package might be the answer as they boast all their components are matched.

" Should" be roller cam ; it not block has provision for roller cam.
Can you put up GM part # ?
Much more choice in cams if roller and better perf with smaller cam than flat tappet styles
