: Security issue?

Hi all! I have a troublesome problem that I hope someone here has heard of. My car's security light is on constantly. The car will only start if you take the battery cables off for 30 min or so. Then it seems to reset so it will start. But when you shut it off you get 1 more start before you have to disconnect it again. Any ideas? It didn't come with a keyless entry. I had new keys made for it with the pellet in it thinking that maybe the key went bad. That wasn't it. Thanks in advance!!-Go cowboys!(please don't hold being a Dallas fan against me and not answer my question! lol):)

Could be a couple of things…. Here’s a little run down of the security systems in the C5:

The C5 has two antitheft systems :
One is the Content Antitheft, the second is the Vehicle Antitheft. The security light stays on after the car is started if there is a problem with the Vehicle Anti -Theft system. The security light tells you the status of the Content Antitheft system (Horn alarm) when the key is off. If the Key is on, or engine running, the Security light is the status of the Vehicle Antitheft system (VATS, Starter cut-off, fuel cut-off). The light will stay on if there is a fail-safe fault with the VATS or Fuel cut-off. Based on the VATs system of the BCM, that enables the starter and sends a coded data-word to the PCM to enable fuel.

Have you checked your codes? If not check them and post them here. It might help to clear all the old codes and start the car and try and drive it to set new codes. Before you shut the engine off write down all your codes and note any “C” codes especially.

One of the 1st things to try is cleaning the resistor pellet imbedded in your key with rubbing alcohol just to make sure.

It really sounds like your BCM could be bad or needs re-programmed:
1) Your ignition key has a pellet in it that has a set resistance. Your current BCM looks for that resistance level and uses that to determine if the key you inserted is valid.
2) If the resistance is correct the BCM sends a "password" to the PCM that tells the PCM it is OK for the car to be driven. This "password" is changed every time the BCM and PCM communicate. Replacing the BCM requires that the BCM and PCM password are re-synchronized.
3) The BCM needs to know what options are installed in your car. For example, if you have the RTD (Real Time Damping) suspension installed, the new BCM needs to know this option is installed on the car.

All of these issues are fixable if you have a Tech2 device or it needs to be done at the dealership.

ok the codes are:
B-0441 heat and a/c actuator motor
B-0446 heat and a/c actuator motor
B-2722 body control module
C-1243 traction control and abs(bpmv pump motor stalled)
I get the heat and a/c problem the motor chirps when it's on.
the others I'm not familiar with.
I bought a new key with a new chip-had it tested to see which one I needed. That didn't work.
Sometimes when I'm driving it... it pops up a QC121111??? not sure what that is either.

B2722 PASS-Key Detection Circuit
Well this would be your security light problem. If you’re certain that your key is good then I would say that the ignition switch or the BCM is bad. My money again is on the BCM

B0441 Left Actuator Out of Range
B0446 Right Actuator Out of Range
You need to re-index your actuator doors, use this link:

C1243 Traction Control and ABS (bpmv pump motor stalled)
It sounds like you already have a handle on this one! :)

QC121111
You got me there! That pops up on your DIC while driving???? That sounded bad didn’t it? LOL No clue on this one…. If you end up taking your Vette in for the BCM have em check on this.

BTW It would help in the future if you put your Vette’s info in your profile….

Hope all this helped!

Next time the car won't start don't disconnect the battery, gain access to the bcm under r/s floor footpan and disconnect the connectors on the bcm and wait 30 seconds and then install the connectors again and start it.pull key and wait 10 seconds will come up.If it starts you have a bad bcm. What is happening is your bcm is going to sleep and not waking up when you want it to.Do all this with key off!!But you already figured that anyway. Good Luck.

Welp, Took it in to the dealership and they told me that the BCM was a little corroted(SP) looking and that it needed replaced($500.00) after they charged me 300.00 just to look at it!. They won't guarantee that this fix will work though, but they said it was a start......They must have deep pockets. I don't!! I guess I will try this though to see what happends!- Merry Christmas to me huh?

Well that sucks,... it seems that if it was only a possibility that it might work then what is it that they are suppose to be doing at the dealership? These are certified mecahnics ASE certified, I would tell them that if it did not work, then they can take it back and reinstall the original one. And for the $300 for looking for an issue they can continue to look and find the poosible real problem, even at a dealerships price per hour, at $300 that is almost 5 hours of labor, in my opinion more time then neccessary to do what they had said they did, and only come up with "A possibility that it MIGHT be this"

Sorry to ramble, it makes me mad to here things like this, I have been a mechanic for many years, and it kills me that people like those give mecahnics a bad name. There's always some in every group.

Ron’s right, that’s BS!!!! Don’t buy that BCM if it doesn’t fix the problem!

Make sure that you check that your drain line for the AC isn’t plugged, it sounds like it did or is leaking into the cabin.

LOL None lying around. If you wanna get crazy you can actually replace the battery in them yourself. Let me know if you want the write-up.

Is it very hard to do? What do the batteries cost and where do ya get-um'? I'm up for anything at this point!

That's a nice link to a good post on changing the battery...
