I have Bilstien Sports and the LR lower bracket on the shock snapped.
Luckily I was able to weld it back together .
I've never seen a street shock snap like that.

Live in chicago.I hit a pothole there once and watched my drivers front wheel snap off and pass me by.

Well I was surprised to say the least
But I just pulled the shocK and welded the "tangs" back on.
The shock it self seemed normal and the lower bolt was tight.
The breaks were clean and went back together nicely.
There are about 120k on the shocks.
If you do need to weld one , wrap the body of the shock with a wet cloth so the heat doesn't hurt anything.

Might pay to check the other side for fatigue?

You've seen Dukes of Hazzard right ? :smilielol5:
I think it broke first due to a week spot where it was welded , the flexed and snapped the other side.
Can I borrow your car ?

Yeah, that s exactly what I was visualizing when I read the shock broke. I could see you flying in the air with the horn playing dixie! seriously, tho , I ve never seen one snap off. Better check the other side.

I have a 98 C5 and just broke rear shock shaft. It was a PFADT coilover. I had never heard of anybody breaking a shock. PFADT was great they are sending me two to replace the rear. The new have an upgrade. I am concerned now, about it breaking. I never thought it was possible. I wasn't doing anything it is a street daily driver. But someday want to roadrace or something.
