My dash creaks and makes all sorts of noises? Its a '95 so its getting up on age. Was wondering if other c4's are making same or similiar noise?

Get a factory manual, settle down in a comfy chair with a beer, and start reading. There's about a bizillion places that the factory has identified as having potential squeek issues! If you want to totally disassemble your car and start over, you can probably eliminate 90% of them using the manual. Me, I'm just going to turn up the radio and drive it.

Pretty much it right there. There are several fixes for it and it'll take you a while to do them all. With my radio up or the top off (not to mention the exhaust;) ), I can't even hear the squeaks:lol:

Well I'm happy to know I'm not alone on this one. Factory manual? Hmmm I'll be getting glazed eyes about 2 pages into it! :smack:

Anyone have some tips to post on this subject? Short cuts for those of us who don't feel like reading a manual?

We're all dealing with cars made of fiberglass, composites and not to mention plastic everything else. Can't help but make a little noise. The manual point out problem spots and some possible cures, like squeak reduction with something like felt between creaking points.

I really can't hear the dash creak over the acrylic top creaking all time when the body flexes.

I had a 94 that creaked something awful, but my 91 does NOT.

If you look through some of the other forums you will see us C4 owners are not the only ones that have issues with noises. Must be a Corvette thing!

My upper trim pad had a terrible squeak that only showed up after the engine warmed up, don't know why, anyway, It was the clips that held the front of the trim pad to the retainers just below the windshield. Took a while to get the pad loose, but was worth it.

My 87 Convertible makes a bunch of noise.
The sweet sound of the exhaust makes up for all of it!

In 1984 this was one of the biggest complaints with the new corvette. I don't think GM ever got all the squeaks and rattles out of the C4s.

I stopped the creaking for a little while with some silicon weatherstrip dressing. Pulled off the top and rubbed the dressing into the weatherstripping and was suprised how quiet my vette could really be.

If that doesn't work, install a bitchin stereo. That works every time!

That is such a good idea, I'll need to give that a shot. Worth a shot at least!

My 93 with 72K miles does the same. I'm not worried about it, just goes with a car that has many years on it.

Must be a Corvette thing!

Its not a Corvette thing, its a GM thing, I'm a die hard GM guy and will be till I die but every GM vehicle I've ever riden in does it, my truck, dad's Suburban, mom's Caddy, girlfriends Grand slAm, her dads 2500hd is the only thing I think I've ever driven that doesn't rattle but I think that because its drown out by exhaust.

I had the same problem. Turns out it was the metal clips that hold the front of the trim pad to the frame below the windshield. Removed the trim pad, greased the clips & no more squeak.

I read some time ago, on another forum, where a Corvette owner took off the main large parts of his dash assembly and then took a tube of CLEAR RTV and put small dabs of it on the areas where wear marks were seen. The RTV tubes that I've seen have a bit of a long dispencing tip that can be trimmed from a fine bead of sealant to as wide as 1/4 inch. Once the RTV cured, it would be in its rubberized state and create a buffer against any rubbing parts. I would guess that he didn't re-assemble the parts immediately, but probably let the RTV cure over night or at least 6 hours before re-assembling the parts. Using CLEAR RTV would obviously minimize the sealant from being seen or at best, keep it to a minimum. I've often thought that this was a great idea, should I ever have a need for using it. I hope this might solve your squeaking problem.

For those with squeekie C4 tops, I re-call reading/seeing in the "Corvette Central" catalogue a FIX for the problem but do not re-call exactly what it was.
I put on new weatherstrip and mine still does it but it is just another noise to go along with others.

Yup-my 84 does the same thing. I think the quick n' dirty fix is radio up and top off!

Oh yea, mine does it all the time also, drives me nuts, but I find loud music is a great, less expensive and time consuming cure!!
