Anybody replace there stock stereo systems. Let's get some pics and specs of your replacement systems. I want to get an idea of what a clean system install would look like.

Means either three things:

1) Nobody replaces a stock bose system, or
2) There is no such thing as a clean install, or
3) We're too much into the outward appearance of our cars to care about the interior.

THE BOSE SYSTEM IS A PAIN IN THE POSTERIOR TO REPLACE, YOU HAVE TO RE WIRE THE WHOLE CAR AND THEN YOU HAVE TO FIND A SOUND SYSTEM TO FIT WHERE YOUR BOSE RADIO WAS AND YOU HAVE TO REPLACE ALL THE AMPLIFIED SPEAKERS IN THE CAR
JUST HAVE IT REPAIRED , YOUR BETTER OFF:thud: :smack: :willy_nilly:

Any electrical work in a pain in the ***.
I decided to re-wire my my 10 speaker setup in my Trans Am. It was not easy but the improvement was very noticeable. If you don't mind stripping your interior then take a stab at it.

I would try to find someone with a rebuilt bose system and base your judgment on that.

I replaced mine and just to let you know they are a pain. If not for the fact that I used to do it professionally I probably wouldn't have done or I would have paid someone to do it. There are pics of my head unit installed in my gallery. I replaced the Bose unit with a Kenwood DVD/TV combo I had to trim it a little (original radio surround) but it looks nice and clean. I replaced all of the interior speakers with Infinity Kappa's and added a Rockford Fosgate 1200 watt amp to power the sub which is a Power acoustic **** 10.

It has a really good sound quality without being overbearing. I am about to re-wire it again for another amp to power the mids and highs to further improve the sound quality.

On my 85 I took out crap aftermarket radio that had replaced Bose radio and put in stock GM from 95 truck, lots of others fit too. You'll need a plug for the new radio from the donor car and an antenna adapter to fit newer radio. Splice new radio wires to your wires. Changed speakers, stock ones worn out anyway, used original speaker wiring. Works like a champ and sounds good too. Not a kick *** high power system but looks right at home and works good.

LOL That's some funny, yet most likely true statements! I won't show mine because I just put a base tube in the back just for some deeper sound. I know that is pretty cheesy but it does sound better and it was not pricey at all. I do plan on getting a nice system put in this year, I have looked at some of "Audio Daves" work and that is who I will go through most likely.

Panasonic w changer, xm radio.... welcome to the 21st century. The older Bose Gold was fine for their time but you need a system that's up for mods just mentioned.

Cheers

I plan on doing mine in the near future! So I hope it isn't as hard as you all described it to be!

It's not hard at all.

I take it to the audio shop of my choice and drop it off. Go back to work to pay for the professional and painless installation. Come back in a few hours and pick up my newly equipped ride:driving:

Not hard at all:thumbsup:
