Its about 2" long in 2 directions. It looks like a "L" can this be fixed or do I need to get a whole new wind shield?

I believe if it's bigger than a quarter you can't fix it you have to replace it.

I know in Florida you must replace any cracked windshield it's the law.

Stars smaller than a nickel can usually be fixed quite well and it's usually better to fix these than try to re/re the windshield and introduce a leak. Bigger than a nickel and smaller than a quarter might be able to be repaired but probably will be somewhat detectable. Cracks (ie: lines) require replacement.

I don't know how it is down your way, but up here when your windshied gets cracked, you pay your insurance deductible and get it replaced. Driving with a cracked windshield can get you a ticket for having impaired vision. Never had to actually "Buy" a windshield so I don't know what it would cost, but my guess would be between $750 - $1000 plus installation. Here the insurance companies expect that a certain percentage of drivers/cars will need this repair/replacement so they budget for these claims in their premiums. It doesn't affect your claims rating when you do launch a glass claim, but you DO have to pay your deductible each time.
