I bought a 140,000 mile '86 Vette 3 weeks ago. I life in southern California where it can get pretty hot. This morning I was cleaning the car getting ready to go cruising and just out of curiousity turned the AC on. I heard this screaching noise and then nothing happened. Neither did any cold air come in? Any ideas?

Sounds like a bad a/c compressor. Have some one turn on the a/c while you watch clutch on the compressor if it stops spinning or the belt starts smoking its bad. Don't touch it afterwords it will be very hot.
