Has anyone introduced some newer technology into their C4's? I wouldn't mind getting XM or Sirus installed in the car. Just a thought.

Can't image many would be installing the Onstar system.

XM or Sirus radio will plug into alot of those aftermarket radio's? I too have thought about that. Our neighbor has XM that he listens to when he is working in his garage. Little to no commercials and over 100 stations? What isn't to like about that.

I've had a Sirus in my 89 for quite a while now. The only thing I notice strange about it is the volume on the Sirus doesn't equal the volume on my standard AM/FM/Cassette Sony radio. Other than that it's pretty much just a plug in and separate antenna.

I have XM in the office and an add on in a car. Car is fine, office had the volume problem you mention - good news - there is an adjustment in the XM reciever to match the volume you have from the standard radio, Siris may have some adj. also.

I have three XM receivers and end up paying $6.99 monthly for the one in the Vette. I use an older Roady 2 with the output plugged into the front aux input to my new Sony Xplod head unit. The antenna is magnetic backed which proved to be an issue. So I put it inside on the dash at the right hand corner. I have used XM for three years now and Love it!

My son is a mechanic for both a GMC and Cadillac dealership. He told me something interesting recently about Onstar(for some reason, that doesn't sound right), whatever the tracking system is called, that they are going to be using a new system and that all the customers with the old system will be left out in the dark, once the change takes place. I don't have anything with any tracking system on it, so it didn't really mean much to me at the time. He did mention that GM does offer the tracking system where you can have it installed on any vehicle now, no matter what year vehicle it is.
In regards to your Satallite Radio thoughts,I have, still in the package, an XM Satellite Radio
system that I've been wanting to install in my '85 Vette. With the winds finally dying down, here in SoCal, I might just work on that installation this weekend.

Got it in my 94 cpe, wife's LeSabre & computor ...love it. Magnetic ant. mounted under hatchback stuck to a phillips screw...no problems to date. You'll probably need to upgrade your head to a Panasonic or something similar.

I have XM and Sirius. Have them in both homes in MN and AZ, all four cars, both offices and a portable XM for walking around.

I haven't listened to commercial radio in about four years. I can't imagine why ANYONE still listens to it when sat is so much better.

Best bet in C4 is to replace the really lousy Bose system entirely. New radio/head with sat radio will require you replace the speakers...no loss there! Built-in is much better than portables.

But if you just want to add XM with little cost, there is a bracket built specifically for XM portable in a Vette C4 (and I think there's a Sirius model) from PanaVise that mounts under dash to right of steering wheel. Works like a charm with a couple of screws after you get to the existing screws. Then you can thread antenna wires to suction cup mount built for that purpose lower right of windshield.

XM has windshield antenna mount item XM010 and I recommend universal car kit XMC10 or 10A depending on which latest radio model (strongly suggest the new color one).

I like XM a bit better, but I'm not a sports nut so can't judge from that perspective about either system. Each has a few stations unique to itself, so get the brochure or go online and figure out which lineup appeals to you.

Remember, XM and Sirius have proposed a merger that has received Justice Department approval. That usually means subsequent FCC approval so it could be that they'll be one organization, perhaps the end of this year.

They're talking about then offering cafeteria programs: you could pick a certain number of channels from either XM or Sirius roster and pay various amounts. That would be great for me since I only listen to about five or six channels on each anyway.

Also, remember the internal FM modulators that "broadcast" to your FM radio are TERRIBLE in ANY car to ANY kind of radio. That's a major reason for the volume level problems. You need to either hard wire it or, as most folks do as an alternative, use the cassette adaptor. Sound with that is very good...at least as good as it gets through C4 Bose speakers. I think it's worth replacing the entire radio for a built-in system just to avoid all those wires, however.

Cost for each is something like $12.95 a month for first radio and $6.95 for each additional radio. Yes, I pay a ton for all my sat radios a month but its well worth it!!

Again, I can't understand why anyone listens to regular radio anymore. One you try it, you'll never go back to endless commercials.
