I just bought a 91 coupe auto trans with 67000 mi. on it What are the pros and cons of the L98 compared to the Lt1 performance and ease to work on ?

The LT1 is faster and easier to work on other than the opti. When I say easier
I am talking about the top end of the motor....

T easier to work on other than the opti. .
Only hard part about the Opti is opening your wallet
LT1 is better ( more powerful stock ) than L98 but more expensive for certain LT1 only parts

There are companies for around $600 will sell you an LT1 intake converted to take an dist, and you will be almost as fast..Oops you'll need better flowing heads, and a hotter cam

I could see why some people would avoid buying 92-96 Vettes due to the Opti Spark. :rofl:

I don't know they just didn't go with DIS,( coil packs, crank/cam sensors) instead.

The L98 is Gen 1 technology and you can take them apart with a couple wrenches. I looked specifically for a 98. There's a lot available for them, LT1s are a little harder to find the variety of parts.

The gen1 motor was build from 1955-1992. LTX were 1992-1996. Short run motor...

Cost to "need". They were able to meet the criteria w/o using DIS, at a lower cost, using the Optispark. Like most decisions, it was a business decision.

Let me know if you want a mini ram. I know of at least one other person who wants one. If I can do 3, I'll do a group buy and work out a price.

With the required fuel rails, about $1200, list. Group buy would be less.
