Due to the horrid condition the speakers were in I decided to go with the db461 4x6 Polk Audio speakers figuring they would hold up well in harsh conditions (the sun beating down on the dash). I have a 1980 vette, and the speakers I took out had a plastic clip on the end of the speaker for it to clip into the stock speakers.
You can all probably tell by that last sentence that I am completely new to the world of cars :thumbsup3: but what better opportunity learn. So my question, the Polk Audio speakers just have the two metal tabs hanging off of them. Do I just strip the wires and connect them to those tabs or is there another plastic piece I need to go between those tabs and the wires?

You can purchase speaker wiring adapters from your local Bestbuy for $7. They have the female end of the plug and a positive and negative wire coming out of the other end that will attach to the aftermarket speaker.
If you're not planning on reinstalling the factory speakers, you can always cut the plastic tab off and run the wires directly to the speakers. The lighter of the two wires in the front are positive. If your changing the rear speakers also, the darker of the two wires are positive. :patriot: PM me if you have any futher questions.

Darn ... I had it backwards ...
The front wires are labeled "A" and "B" instead of "+" and "-", so I tried A in + and B in -. But the darker of the two was in A.
So I should switch them. One of the speakers you can tell is for sure struggling.

ok, swapped the light wire to positive and dark to negative. Sounds good. Now here's a follow up question:
Turning the volume on the radio, the right dash speaker always sounds fine, and adjusts volume accordingly. The left speaker seems to cut in and out unless i turn the volume *** just right. Is that a regular thing with old cars or do I have a short in the wire?

ensure you have a good connections, soldered or a connector.....also make sure you dont have any polarity issues..... such as a "positive wire connecting to a negative" etc...
there should be no cutting in or out... what radio are you using?

the stock radio/tape deck is the one I'm using ... and hoping to keep it intact.
