Pull your battery, and battery tray to see if you have leaking battery acid damage.
Here's a couple of links to read.

This may seem like a silly answer but make sure that you didn't turn the rheostat all the way down on the dash lights and check to make sure (via ohm meter not visual) that the bulbs didn't take a surge and blow out. I had one out and didn't think it was the bulb but because the filament LOOKED intact but it wasn't.

I think I might actually have the same problem with mine. Sometimes the interior lights will not come on right away for me. It's a new problem for me lately. Just a few gremlins I have to figure out!

You are quite welcome Bro... See if you can open yours up when you remove it and possibly fix it yourself. The problem may be obvious when you look inside of it. Maybe a dirty or corroded contact...etc.. If you're looking to buy one...try here for a new one: Link:http://www.corvettesouth.com/corvette-steering-216/steering-c5-97-04-217/97-2004-c5-steering-column-multi-function-switch-534015.html There is a used one on eBay for $139.00. Personally, I think that's way too much for a used one. Good luck and let me know how it goes...:coffeetime: "Ricovette"

Thanks for sharing, I feel bad about piggy backing off this thread having the same problem. I wouldn't buy a used one from ebay for that either. At corvette central you can get a new one for $164.00 best deal I've found. I'm going to try my hand at fixing it. What do I have to loose, it's already broken! Thanks again!

Well I tore my switch out this morning. Ran some errands and then attempted to fix it myself. Need less to say I was suspicious when first getting into as it looked second hand. Once inside I confirmed that. I still tried the fix unfortunately it is a no go so I will have to get a brand new part! I will put some pics of it up later for all to see if they want to try. The fix should work if your part hasn't been touched before.

That multi-switch breaking seems to be a common problem in GM vehicles.

This is what I think happened with mine before me. Replaced, then manipulated. When I got to it, time for a new one. I'm expecting the part on Monday. Been a week since I've ordered it.
