I have an 86 with a ZF six speed and I'm 99% sure I need a new slave cylinder. My question is, does it matter what year the transmission is, and if so, how do you find out what year your transmission is? Thanks a lot!

IIRC they all mount / work the same using the same bellhousing.
Don't recall reading about any differences between the blue / black tag boxes or year differences; 88 - 96
Got to Rockauto and see if there are any different part # listed across the various years

Awesome thanks for the input! I hope they are the same I just ordered a new one this afternoon, hopefully tomorrow evening I'll crawl under the old berg and swap some parts. I already replaced the master cylinder a few months ago and I recently noticed the fluid was low; I am hoping a seal went in the slave cylinder because there is once again no resistance.

So I installed the slave cylinder today, everything seemed to fit okay and everything worked okay....at first. While I was sitting in the car depressing the clutch pedal the pedal clicked as I depressed it, I took my foot off and depressed again and it clicked again, so I removed my foot and depressed once more and the pedal did not move. I went from no resistance to so much resistance you cannot move the clutch pedal. When I tried to re-bleed the lines the pedal depressed just fine with as much resistance as you could expect, but as soon as I tightened the bleeder valve it wouldn't budge. My diagnosis: 1). Its the wrong slave cylinder; however that does not explain why it was working at first. 2). The slave cylinder broke and its just my **** luck to receive a faulty component.
Does anybody have any ideas? I'm hoping I did something stupid and its a simple fix, however I have this overwhelming feeling its not...:1sm258fight:

Good news for anyone listening, I bought a new slave cylinder gambling that the previous new one I got was faulty, and the gamble paid off. Shes good as new!
