I am looking for a good trans to put behind my new motor.

I want a trans that can with stand at least 400 HP still full auto with a little frimmer shift but not neck breaking shifts a everyday driver type.

As normal cheeper is better when you are on a budget but I don't want JUNK.

I want to reuse the OEM Converter I don't think I need a high stall type.

I read some were the 1986 have a 1200 RPM stall stock thats all I need.

I looked at Mad Dog Transmission but after reading there Reviews It sound best to stay away from them.

What trarns would you get.
How about those E-Bay trans are they worth gettng.

I have a Performabuilt. Marv asked me this in PM so I asked he start a thread to get other opinions, and so I can plug Performabuilt.

I visited their facility in Pennsylvania. I purchased their top of the line transmission and converter. The converter went bad, so they gave me a BRAND NEW trans and converter. (ok so rebuilt) NO questions asked, no hassle. They also include a flush kit and a cooler with the trans.

Frank over there is a great guy. The whole company was great. I even got free t-shirts, yes I can be bought cheap. I paid $2600 with the converter rated to 800HP....I'll test that theory soon enough...:D

They have a package with a 2 year warantee even on the converter, EVEN IF YOU RACE. Many companies will VOID their warrantee if you race.

I was offered to sell their stuff, and I just may be talking myself into it....:D Not sure what that has to do with fuel systems... :D

Their package that you would need , with a converter is $1600 and change. That's a decent price considering the converter is worth over $600 itself. It is the same converter Pete K has had so much success with over the years. So far one of the best companies I have ever dealt with, for anything.

ALSO as long as you own your car, they will rebuild your trans for $900 any time with the same quality parts you paid for in the first place.

Is it a Corvette Case or a Normal 700R4 case if it is a normal case what do you need to do to get it to fit.

But what I likeing they have a Lay Away Program I don't have the full amount this month for the trans But t least I can order it But let me sleep on it before I act on this.

I got a Corvette case. They also have "K" casting which is a truck casting that is a little thicker.

The Corvette casting isn't really different except for the tail....which bolts off.

I give them a call this friday it payday and put one on lay away I mite as well get a new converter at the same time and put my old trans on E-Bay.

I talk to Frank and see if he will cut me a better deal if I can use my Vett case as a core to get my new one cheeper.

I was told Vett cases are hard to get.

I wouldn't be surprised if they had a Corvette casting in stock. They send you a return shipping and you just call UPS to pick up and they take your core back. I think I got $100 back on the core.

I know how the budget thing goes, happened to me. Started with an intake, went to heads/cam, intake, ehaust, went to new motor, went to new trans, went to new rear......just what happens.

Good idea though about not cutting corners, I've learned there's a high cost of being cheap...

Change in plans After reading and wacthing 700R4 rebuilding videos you gussed it I giong to rebuild my own.

The way I look at it $499.00 for a Montser Mega kit Plus a day of my own labor.

Or $1600.00 plus tax Ect for pre built one.

When I looked at the $1100.00 labor cost I just could not get my self to pay for this.

I have it apart it was easy now I getting the parts cleaned up and waiting for the rebuid kit to show up.

So now I waiting for engine parts and Trans parts.

I work on mulit millon Dollar Aircraft every day a trans cant be that hard to do.

I have rebuilt manal trans, transfer case,s motorcycles gear boxe top and bottom ends, auto motors, aircraft I think I can do a Auto trans.:z1-2:

With a $20 Haynes transmission manual, it's very easy to rebuild a 700R4. I have rebuilt about 20 automatic transmissions during my lifetime and the 700R4 WAS the hardest by far. Only because it has so many parts in it (approximately 250). Once you do the first one, you'll see how easy they are to do. It takes about a day to tear one apart and put it back together. If I recall, the 700R4 rebuild kit costs less than $200.

I already Building a 370 HP 427 TQ motor to put in front of this trans already.

Still waiting for the parts to show up so I can finish the motor up.

It should be fun street car to drive around it set up to run on pump gas.
