I just ran my hand in plastic bag over my paints finish and it feels pretty rough. Now if I clay bar this, will it remove the existing wax also? Or just the grim?

Clay will strip the paint bare, as long as you use a fine grade clay it won't cause any marring so you won't need to polish, but you will need to wax/seal to restore the protection to the finish.

Will one clay bar do an entire car? I have never clay barred before. Mainly because I really don't know how. But I tried that hand in plastic bag thing also and I can feel all sorts of stuff going on!

If you take care of it and use a good lube, such as detail spray, you can get more that one clay session out of it. I just clay my '01 coupe today and only used a quarter of the bar. You need to fold the piece you are using over and work it back to a flat piece after each section of the car you do. I do my hood in four sections, each fender in two sections as well as both doors and the hatch.

I always polish and wax the car after I clay it. It will take off the old wax.

One important note, if you drop the piece of clay you are working with, I just throw it away and get a fresh piece.

Good information, just found their video's in another post here. Always could use some schooling when it comes to detailing.

Bought my first vette Tuesday. Its actually for the wife. Used the clay on it today and could have used one bar for the whole car but I dropped it. I didn't want to take a chance with it and switched to a fresh one. Its the first time I ever used clay and I'm impressed with the results. I found the more lube I sprayed the better the results. The clay took everything off except the paint. I'll polish and wax it tomorrow so the boss can start driving it.

That scenario is exactly why we sell such an large bar and the air tight storage container. You can literally break ours into 2 or 3 pieces and each chunk will do a car the size of a vette multiple times. If you drop one, you've got a backup waiting.

Nothing worse than having a small clay bar, dropping it, and not having a backup handy! Really kills the detailing plans.

We're currently in our 10th year of business.

Adam and I met some 13+ years ago working swap meets together selling a product called DER Shiny Stuff... a company that long ago was shut down for environmental compliance issues.

Went our own ways for years, reconnected about 18 months ago when he needed help with his growing market presence and I was already working on high profile stuff, magazine features, technical writeups, etc.

Figured this was a good chance to help out a friend and have some fun at the same time. Detailing is a passion for me, I truly do enjoy it. Getting to test products, teach people, talk detailing, etc. is kind of a dream job for me.

That is something that I didn't know either, about clay bars taking off paint.

They don't, they remove wax and contamination from the paint, but they will not remove paint.
