Are you asking how to reset the oil life indicator after an oil change? Turn the ignition on without the engine running. Press the Trip button until the Oil Life indicator is displayed. Hold the Reset button for around 2 seconds. The Oil Life indicator should read 100%. Turn off the key.

I have a been giving my '03 oil changes every 8000 miles. During the last oil change I was told that I should change the oil closer to every 4,000 miles? Is this true?

I think some driving conditions are a factor, like dust. Some Vette owners still follow the old guidelines and like to change their oil every 3-4K mi. Under normal driving conditions, that seems a little early especially if you are using a full synthetic oil like Mobil 1.

I've read lots of articles about the amount of work and testing that GM expended when developing the algorithm, based on the various variables (rpm, oil temp, time, cold starts) used to determine the oil life indicator percentage. Oil analysis was done on hundreds of cars, while testing the device. I change my oil when the oil life indicator gets down to about 20%.

I think changing oil only based on mileage was a safe approach on cars before the advent of the oil life indicator, but doing so on our Vettes, may be a waste of good oil and money.

Point taken. Thanks guys. It does make sense to reduce it to every 3000 miles. Are you all still running the mobile one?
