Helping out a friend trace some spark issues today, this is for a 2005 C6. Would like to check to see if correct about of juice is being to plugs from each coil.

You can ohm out the coils. I couldn't find the specs, so I would see that they are all the same.

You can use a 4 channel lab scope, like what's available on the OTC Genisis and Snap On Modis

A graduated spark tester

Or, like the 9 volt battery, stick your tongue on the coli lead and crank the engine. When you get that tingle, all is good to go.

You can also swap coils between known good cylinders and the suspect cylinder and/or ohm out the wires.

Yes there is. With a tool called a "Spark Tester". Ignition coils typically fail through carbon tracking of the insulation, so checking resistance or making an open air spark won't tell you anything; this device will produce a pressurised chamber where you can check the spark under a higher atmosphere.

Here is a cheap one (http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00915400000P?vName=Tools&cName=Auto&MechanicsTools=&sName=Auto%20Specialty%20Tools&psid=FROOGLE01&sid=IAx20090815x000001&aff=Y)

Coils don't fail to often do they? I mean if a coil is bad, you are going to know it, the car will be running like crap.

Coil failure is most noticable under load. If it has failed it may show up at idle as well. If you have access to a scan tool (Tech 2) or someone with programming software you can isolate the cylinder that is giving you problems. You may be able to use one from AutoZone/PepBoys/Kragen etc...

I've never had a coil go bad before. Knock on wood!
