I think it will blend right in with the interior. I wonder if I need the bose adapter from Crutchfield, or if I can splice into ( NEVER CUT ORIGINAL PLUGS OFF) the wiring. If I splice into I would of course use the preouts. But I doult it will be that simple, will probably need the 50 or 60 dollar kit. Radio can be had for $175 on ebay.

Any thoughts?

Too Tall...Will not fit in a C4 stock radio space. Unless you like cutting up info area and rearranging...

Is it not a double din? Just going by crutchfields measurements of what will fit.

Just reading that too. The description says "Double din". I think the C4 opening is 1.5 din from what I remember reading on other posts from the past. I remember them talking about a lot of modifications to make it fit.

Yea, I read that too, but I think they were talking about rear brace. Which by the way, they want you to cut out. It's big and it's plastic and there's no way I'm cutting it out. Most of the 2 din dvd units they have are like 7" inches deep, and our's is only 6". This radio is a little less than 6.2". I think I can make that work.

I haven't measured the face of our radio but I figured it was the same as my 84 Trans Am, which is double den.

If it's double DIN height shouldn't be a problem you are just left with depth as a possible issue.

I know the audio snobs aren't a big fan of the Boss brand, but I have no personal experience with them to add.

Not big Boss fan either, but it's less than half the cost of a Kenwwood etc..

Double check for fit by going to Crutchfields and entering the year of your vette in thier calculator. The thing will give you a list of radios that will fit and you can check dimensions with this Boss unit your looking to buy.

84-96 Corvettes are 1.5 Din., earlier were all single, and 97s up are dbl. All stereos are about the same depth (from face plate to the back in the dash) but some set-ups have pin for bracing the stereo ether in the center or off-set to one side. With CD units you REALY need to get the rear braced or it will cause problems, that is when a GOOD installer comes in nice. Many people neglect that bracing and find problems later. Puting a single Din in a 1.5 or dbl opening is just a matter of getting an adapter plate and rear mounting by whatever means available. But puting a 1.5 in a single or a dbl in a 1.5 involves lots of cutting and custom dash work to make it fit and it almost never looks right. You REALY should find a different sized head unit that will fit. Look at single or 1.5 units.

Thanks man, you probably saved me getting the wrong radio. I may still get it. But if I do, I'll get another face plate too, That way I'll have one to cut on. Plus there atleast 2 din room behind the plate.

With a car that I think is a collectible, I almost never modify an oem part with out having a replacement, which I wrap up neatly and stash up in a fender or some other hidden place. I do this because I remember my first car ( which I still have), a 67 Mustang. The radio cover and a few other dash pieces had been modified for different reasons. At the time they were almost imposable to find. I started taking parts off when I found this note that said " parts in front drivers inner fender". First I looked under the dash, nothing, then I tried looking into the front fender with the door opened. I could see some plastic in there, so I unbolted the fender from the bottom and drug out the mother load. Brand new dash parts, all the ones that had been mangled plus new knobs etc. All wrapped up nicely in plastic. There was even a new windshield washer bag and foot pump. So my question is, where can I hide the oem radio in this vette?

You do not seem to understand... Din is a manufacturers name for the hight of the opening in the dash. This dble Din is too tall to fit through the opening in your dash. That is not something you want to try to squeeze into your dash unless you plan on making a complete custom dash from scratch.
Or;
Lets say that Din is one inch...I don't know correct measurement from memory...
That would mean that the opening in your dash would be one and a half inches tall and this stereo would be two inches tall...it will not fit.

I think Din is roughly 2.25 inches but not certain. If that is right then the hole in your dash is 3.375 inches tall and the stereo is 4.5 inches tall...Do you see that it will not fit now? You would have to cut the dash hole taller/higher...not the face plate.

I do understand. The opening in the dash plate is 1.5 den. But if you remove the plate you'll see that there is more than 2 din space, components aren't stacked on top of each other. And of course you would have to butcher the face plate. I had the radio out just 2 days ago, and in about a thousand pieces too btw.

Have the vette wired and working with a single din jensen. Kept the bose speakers. Used a $12 converter from wamart of all places, also got a plug adapter there for $8 bucks. Also ran rca cords for the pre-outs and an extra speaker wire for a sub, just in case I do a future upgrade. Will add a rca cord for rear view video before I button everything up.

Picked up the jensen cheap as just something to tide me over until I found what I wanted. But aas it turns out, I'd have to cut up the bezel for it, so I went a head and 2nd day aired the boss, a slightly updated version.

Notice the talk button and the little red hangup phone button. Will try to get some pics before I put things back together.

That's incorrect. 84-89 is 1.5, 90-96 is Double

There are countless 90+ C4's fitting DD setups easily.

Yea I figure I'd go with something cheap. I mean the wires I run and the hole I cut will fit most any double den radio. So it'll be a easy upgrade later if I come across a good deal.

Check out my other thread "hooker headers and many other parts...", I go into more detail on the wiring and such.

Just had a Pioneer AVIC-X910BT installed in our 95. We had to have an installation kit to fit the unit to the opening and used the Crutchfield interface cable . Took the whole thing to Best Buy and it took the better part of 8 hours to install and for about $200. The best money I have ever spent. It is very professional job. The tech said that they are NEVER going to do another 'vette again as it took so long and he had to tear the whole inside of the car apart. We had the sat and gps antennas mounted on the dash by the flaky forward speaker.

Just googled it:

Very nice:thumbsup:

Have you tried the bluetooth yet? Was wondering how well it auto connected to your phone. Big problem, missing calls sense I got the vette.

I've always hated having one of those retail store techs install something in my car. Thats why the last time I had it done was in the early 90's ( car phone in the TA at Circuit City... boy I miss them ). But I guess it's like everything else, sometimes you come across a good one. The good news is now that it's setup, it'll be an easy upgrade if later on you change out that radio.

Don't have the bluetooth synched up yet. One on the guys at work has the same system only an older model and it works fine. The only complaint I have from them installing it was the windshield was grimy from hand prints. It was installed on a Thursday and as my wife pulled in the drive with it, I was packing a bag to go out of town for an overnight trip, so it was 2 weeks before I got to even hear it! Next is new speakers.

It's installed, just not quite happy with it yet though. Think I need to twik it a bit more.

As far as the radio goes, I'd give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. I mean everything works as it should. The bluetooth sinks right up with my phone, the dvd player plays Tin Cup perfectly and picture is great, the radio sounds great and tunes stations in well, the SD card reader ( which will also play movies and pics ) works perfectly. But it only displays the clock on the radio screen ( I like the clock to always be up on a car radio ). I can't change the color sceam. Just not a lot of settings I can change in this radio. I suspect my rating of this radio may go up at least a half a star as I get use to it, we'll see.

Need to find a good hidding place for a rear view cam now. Thinking of using a board cam with a 1.8 lens and a 1/3 ccd (about 190 degree view "fisheye").

Should have put this in this thread....

The $12 dollar converter I used from walmart:
http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/oadiOnehYvCom5NzCQWAH5cetEmGJraNzF_KIoFbzLR9dBktJ8 UbMhdcNULFcieyDscBs4wY5dk3sD8eJlDrKw3nSXeTbAfRjvS4 64jNWrTwFbYNt8y72QFWxLixVYaplpPxCaxSI_R1xMlFjtqsMg n0GK9F9_HR0OlAHCbzotyQjvBj804er80XqUYraRQTl4mk
or you can find it by googling " scosche converter " Set the switch to "Factory Amp".

I also used a scosche "88-05 General Motors" car stereo wiring connector which I think was $8:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41rVJ5C93mL._SL500_AA300_.jpg
Which came with an antenna adapter. The GM one is smaller than normal. I used regular RG6 cable like you would use on your TV for the extension cable and added male and female leads form radio shack. Part # 274-709 (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102835&clickid=prod_cs) & 274-710 (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102836&clickid=prod_cs) :

http://rsk.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pRS1C-2265154w345.jpg

These were only $2.99 a piece.

I ran all my wires up the pass side of the center console and into a hole in the middle of the panel behind the pass seat. Do yourself a favor and go a head and remove the pass seat and the inside seat belt connector. The hole through the panel will already have wires running through it but has plenty of room. Even so, the edge is metal so you need some thing to protect the wires from ware. I used a 1/4 vacuum hose which I sliced open on one side with a razor blade and placed around the top of the opening kind of like those door edge guards you see.

Trying to future proof the install, I ran many wires that are unused at the moment. First I made up the wire harnesses. I made them 7' long which is probably 6-8" inches too long, but I like a little room to work. The main harness includes ground, +12v ignition, +12v asy (always on) and +12v antenna which also powers the Bose speakers. I was worried about finding the right wire on the relay ( which is also in the same rear compartment ) to power the Bose amps, but it was already wired into the antenna power lead. I used 14 gauge speaker wire ( $13 for 50' at walmart ) which is way over kill for this setup but once again, "future proof". I also ran 2 sets of rca speaker wires for the "pre-outs" which would be used for a future amp setup. In that harness I added a 18 gauge speaker wire which I can add rca ends too for a sub out. Lastly I ran a rca video-stereo-3.5mm male to male plug cable for a possible rear view cam or whatever. The only one I had was 6' long, which is a little tight but I think will work out fine.

I started this with the idea of replacing the speakers, but I removed one rear speaker and it looked brand new. Plus I would of had to really butcher the boxes to fit a decent speaker into them, especially the front ones which have a 4.25" and a 3.25" in them ( measurements not exact). The rear is a single 6.5".

While the Jensen radio in it now is only temporary, the speakers sound great. A friend ask me where I put the new sub at, and I replied it didn't have one. Make sure any radio you add has a SD card slot. Its really nice having all your music built into the radio.

Rode around for about an hour and a half last nite with the top down. Who needs a vacation when you can relax like this.....:sm_party:

We just got a Mazda in with a Pioneer AVIC-X900BT in it. I immediately removed it and replaced it with my Boss system. Now just have to make a couple adjustments to the brackets I made and I'll have a really nice nav uint that handles mp3's much better than the boss.

I luv free upgrades...:rockon6rk:

Well... it's in. Kind of tight, didn't take the time I needed to make everything fit just right. I mean it looks good from the outside, but I like everything to be just so. I'll probably redo it over the winter when I tear everything apart to make it all factory like and get everything squeak and rattle proofed. Even though I don't really have any, I know their coming just by all rubber lining that came off.
