As a future mod( I hope soon) I will be looking into deleting my cats. It will be a for sure thing once I get a little bit of money. Now I've heard that instead of putting straight pipes in place, that gutting the cats will create a deeper sound. Now will gutting my cats still get the same horsepower as getting straight pipes in place?

Thanks in Advance SVC!

Have you done any upgrades to your exhaust as of yet? headers mufflers?

Honestly when I put a test pipe in place of my cat I didn't notice anything different in performance. Track times didn't change.

As far as sound I also didn't notice any differance. But keep in mind I also had the headers and borlas installaed prior to its removal.

In my TRANS AM, when my cat clogged up, I gutted it...and combined w/shorty headers, and an SLP cat back, it sounded awesome. Even one of my very critical friends said it was one of the best sounding cars he's heard. Yes it sounded very deep and melodeous.

Different CAR...but it's a data point for you.

i noticed that the previous owner of my vette gutted out the cats and it sounds pretty nice to me :) but in the state i live in, to pass inspection we gotta have the cats, so thats why its gutted and still there

Yeah the main cat will keep emissions down, and i think it u deleted them a shop most likely would never notice. Its cheap to gut compared to upgrade in other ways. I wonder if deleteing them would cause less back pressure on the stock motor, and you would gain a little hp, but lose that power that you like, when u cruise at like 3500 then let off, then floor it. And get that slaming pull. You know what I saying. Just a thought. I did it havent drove car since, still apart doing other work.

Well I don't have to worry about emissions here (yet). Only other mod that I've done to my exhaust was delete my resonator for cats( which the resonator really seemed like straight pipes in side) yet it still gave my C4 a nicer tone, louder for sure. I'm mainly looking for a better and louder sound. I've also heard I wouldn't have to worry about the loss of HP due to the back pressure since there being no restriction in the cats, which will have a better flow. I still have the stock mufflers as well.

In that case its FREE to gut your own cat. Whats the worse thats gonna happen?...

Rapid lose of hearing! :happy0045: I'll post the outcome to this whenever I get it done. I'll also post videos for others to see what the outcome sounds like. Thanks again all.
