Hi People.

I'm about to install a new tach cable and 90 degree fittting. Is there anything obvious that I need to know, any tricks? I guess that I need to get behind the tach it self. Can this be done from underneath or do I have to pull it out of the dash?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
T.Huck

You can do it under the dash.

Yep, you can get to it without removing anything, just reach up and move the retainer clip on the back of the tach to release the cable. Where are you putting the 90 degree fitting, at the distributor end? I had one of those on my speedo cable, it gave me some problems (ask toobroke, he helped me out on the forum with it and related issues with gears) but mine was old and of an odd configuration. I have a new, better 90 degree fitting that I was thinking of putting on my tach, but I was just able to get it routed without it bending too much. I may put it on there anyway someday, or the speedo cable, if I ever replace either one. The 90 degree fitting eliminates a lot of the lateral stress on the cable, as I'm sure you are aware, and if you have one with a grease fitting it will help with lubricating it. Best of luck, it isn't hard to install and should serve you well.

Thank you Gentelmen.
I knew that this forum would be an excellent resource for a novice such as myself. the truth is that my mechanical skills are not too bad just outta practice.

Big T, I moved to Midland Texas from Marshfield, MO. after having lived there 29 years! Small world! I visit home about twice a year, and as amatter of fact, I got my Vette from a friend of my Son's, (my son is still in Springfield attending college at Drury University) father. It had belonged to his mother who purchased it in 1980 from the origonal owner. it has not been driven much since 1999, her having had hip surgery and therefore unable to get in and out of the car.LOL At 77 years old she still did not want to part with HER corvette.

I find myself having to do things I did years ago every once in a while, but funny how some of those things come back into your head like they never left, and it just comes naturally it seems.

Yeah, Marshfield is very close, just down the road really! And you mentioned Drury, that's funny because my dad went there and so did I, back when it was still called Drury College. Not too long ago, well close to 20 years, and it still looks so similar although they are doing some new construction this year.

Hopefully you can get back in the routine of things with your Corvette and get things done you want/need to do, and there is always something to do, isn't there? Let me know if I can be of further help, either here or in person if you come back, I have a 73 so we have similar components. It's great hearing how people got their Vettes, I always get a kick out of it anyway. Best of luck with it all, I am sure your car is or at least will be, quite a stunner!
