: Why an LS in a C4 is few and far between?

I haven't personally seen anyone with a C4 that has done an LS swap.
Every other car on this planet seems to be doing this swap from Miatas to Solstice to BMW to Nissan/Datsun, I mean the list goes on.
However the list of C4 owners that have done it is short and almost non existant, atleast in my neck of the woods.

Check out some of the other C4 forums; plenty have done it and it is well documented

You can buy the swap parts ; headers , motor mount adapters, etc off the shelf

Its around and like vetteoz says its well documented.

Aside from the newer technology of the LS I'm not completely sold on the idea of a swap. Just a thought.

:iagree:

In the examples you posted most are a radical change.

In the C4 you are going from one 350 small block to another. For a lot less $$ you can add mods and get the same HP that a stock LS1/6 offers.

At least with swapping just an LS1. Now, if I was given an LS9...

I wouldn't say "plenty" have done it. There are some out there, but certainly not many. Cost seems to be the issue overall. There are other ways though.

Of course for bang for the buck you can make the LT1 put down power, but there's value (and resale value) in the coolness/individuality factor.

Compare the base power between a LT1 and a LSX.
You are starting with 100hp more not to mention the superior heads

BINGO!!! Couldn't have said it better myself!

Nice to see SOMEONE gets it!!!! I've been saying that for months.

PLUS for people like me, I like the rumble of a gen 1 small block. I don't like the look of the LS motor with the coil on plug, and I like to be able to work on the car without a lot of special tools and stuff.

I can send heads to a guy like Curtis Boggs at RFD and get similar results. I can go raised runner All Pros and get similar results. Hell, a set of Brodix X-10s well ported has been shown to put down some serious power.

There's the option of an altered angle head and manifold from 18* to 9* and have just as much performance on a Gen1 short block without all the work of modifying the frame and such.

The LT1 was a short run motor, I don't see a lot of really good aftermarket options for them. Although people have been getting some good power out of it.

With LS1 being the most common LSX out there you're picking up between 45 and 50 HP with a straight swap.

Compared to the cost of an LT1 to LS1 swap picking up 50 HP on an LT1 is cheap. It may be a lot closer if you are doing an LS6, LS2,3 etc.

I do love the LS as a platform. But every time I compare the cost, etc I come back to build my Gen I and then throw some boost at it. I'm not scared to fabricate and do some wiring. But with the CCM on my 90 and some dash function going away, I'll build what I've got. If I had the old digital dash and 4+3, maybe I would have a different view.

I'd like to build a Factory Five 33 Hot Rod, and if I do, then I'll use an LS in it.

My initial plans was an LSx swap but like some others have stated I prefer the look of the gen-I small blocks, so when the time comes I'm goin' with a 427 sb. There's just something about the magical number 427 and Corvette, I think the equation would be 427*Corvette + 1 - roof= 1 great time......

Thanks, if you need any insight to putting together a SBC 427, let me know.
